Starfield on PS5: Release date, 60 FPS mode and free flight in space.

Calendar 3/18/2026

What has been speculated for months has finally become a reality – one of Bethesda's biggest hits is no longer an "exclusive" for the Microsoft ecosystem. On 7 April 2026, Starfield will officially land on PlayStation 5. This is a huge move from the publisher, especially as the release on Sony's console will coincide with the launch of the largest free update to date and a new story expansion. It seems that PlayStation players will get the game in its most polished and enriched form, which Xbox fans have had to wait almost three years for.

Bethesda squeezes the juice out of DualSense and PS5 Pro

When bringing Starfield to PlayStation, the developers didn't take the easy route and decided to utilise the specific features of this console. The biggest difference will come from the DualSense controller – the adaptive triggers will provide different resistance when shooting with various types of weapons, and the speaker in the pad will play messages from the onboard intercom or audio logs found in the game world. These are small details, but in a game of this scale, they can significantly enhance the atmosphere. Additionally, the touchpad will serve as a quick view switch and access to the map, which should make navigating the Settled Systems easier.

It also looks very good for PS5 Pro owners. The game will have dedicated modes of operation, including the much-anticipated Performance mode. Thanks to this, players will be able to play at a smooth 60 frames per second while maintaining high-quality graphics. For those who prefer maximum image sharpness, a Visual mode has been prepared, offering a 4K resolution, although at a standard 30 frames.

End of boredom in space: Free flight and new DLC

Alongside the release on PS5, all platforms will receive a free update named Free Lanes. This is the feature that players have been missing the most – free flight of the ship between planets within a single system. Bethesda is finally abandoning the constant jumping through loading screens, allowing for manual piloting of the vessel and encountering random events in space. The entire travel system is now set to be much smoother, and exploration is genuinely rewarding our curiosity.

The complete package includes the paid DLC Terran Armada. It’s a new story focusing on the fight against an army of advanced robots, introducing a new star system, Incursion, and an additional companion to the game. From day one on PS5, players will also be able to check out the Trackers Alliance pack, a series of seven standalone missions for bounty hunters. It looks like on April 7, Starfield will debut on PS5 as a complete product that finally delivers on most of the promises made before the game’s first launch three years ago.
