The company has begun implementing new software that brings features known from the latest Bravia televisions to older models as well. Among the new features is the Direct Connect platform for wireless control of audio systems and a completely refreshed settings interface. This allows users to gain new capabilities without the need to purchase new equipment.
Direct Connect lets you create a wireless home theatre system
The main highlight of the update is the Direct Connect platform. This solution was introduced with the latest Bravia 9 II and Bravia 7 II TVs, but is now also available for older models. The system allows you to wirelessly connect the television to selected rear speakers and subwoofers from Sony. In practice, the television takes on the role of the central and front audio channels, while the additional speakers handle spatial effects and low frequencies. This means users can create an elaborate home theatre setup without the need for running extra cables through the living room. Sony is targeting this solution primarily at people looking for a simple way to improve sound quality. The setup is meant to be quick and intuitive, and the entire system functions as one cohesive ecosystem. The feature is included in flagship model A95L as well as the Bravia 5, Bravia 7, Bravia 8, Bravia 8 II and Bravia 9 series. All of these televisions use the MediaTek Pentonic 1000 chip, which provides the necessary support for the new features. The update is already available in Europe, North America, and other regions around the world. For many users, this could be one of the most interesting changes in Sony televisions in a long time, especially since it does not require purchasing a new receiver.
New My Cinema interface Organises Picture and Sound Settings
The second major new feature is the introduction of the My Cinema interface. Sony has decided to redesign the way television settings are managed, creating a clearer configuration hub.
