Skyrim finally at 60 FPS on Nintendo Switch 2. Bethesda responds to criticism

Calendar 2/18/2026

Bethesda has finally listened to the voices of players using the Nintendo Switch 2. After the release of the refreshed version of Skyrim, many users were disappointed by the fact that the game still ran exclusively at 30 FPS. With more powerful hardware, expectations were much higher, especially since we're talking about a game released over a decade ago. The wave of criticism quickly gained momentum and clearly reached the developers. Now the situation is changing. The new update introduces the much-awaited 60 frames per second mode and stability improvements.

Two graphic modes to choose from

After the update, players can choose between quality mode and performance mode. The latter allows Skyrim to run at 60 FPS, resulting in smoother animations, more responsive combat, and clearly better exploration experiences. Those who prefer higher graphical quality can stick with 30 frames, but the developers assure that it is now stable, "locked" 30 FPS without sudden drops in performance. This is a significant change compared to the earlier version.

Strategic move ahead of upcoming releases

The update didn’t come by chance. In the coming months, Bethesda plans to release more titles on the Nintendo Switch 2, including Fallout 4 and other major productions. The improvement in Skyrim’s performance may signal that the company is taking Nintendo's hybrid console more seriously. If other titles receive similar optimisations, the Switch 2 could become a much more appealing platform for fans of the studio’s RPGs.

Skyrim at 60 FPS on Nintendo Switch 2 is a move that players have been awaiting since the launch of the new console. Bethesda has improved performance and given users a real choice between quality and smoothness. It's a small update on paper, but a significant change in practice. Now the question remains whether the studio's upcoming games will offer a similar standard from the get-go.
