OLED is finally ceasing to be the exclusive domain of gamers. In 2025, Samsung is launching the M9 (M90SF) – the first QD-OLED monitor in its Smart Monitor series, which isn't aimed at hardcore gamers, but at… the rest of us.
Instead of treating OLED as a luxury add-on for e-sports enthusiasts, Samsung is offering something more universal. The M9 is supposed to be the answer to the needs of those who want one screen for everything: watching, browsing, light work, and sometimes – as it happens – a quick game of something enjoyable.
SAMSUNG Smart M9
Samsung M9 is a 32-inch monitor equipped with a QD-OLED panel that displays images in 4K resolution at a refresh rate of 165 Hz. This means it’s sharp, smooth, and has that characteristic "OLED" contrast that impresses even when just browsing the internet. For those concerned about burn-in, Samsung has included its OLED protection system, Safeguard+, which aims to reduce this risk.
The screen is also covered with a special matte coating that reduces light reflections, so even with a window or lamp behind it, there's no need to adjust the monitor awkwardly. This could be one of the best screens for everyday use that truly doesn’t strain the eyes.
Additionally, it features the Tizen system – the same as in Samsung TVs. In practice: you can launch Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, or Disney+ without connecting a laptop. The M9 works like a smart TV, except in the form of a monitor – ready to use right after turning it on.
Is this a monitor for work? Not yet.
Although Samsung promotes it as an "all-in-one" device, it's still hard to consider the M9 as a tool for long hours of text work. The subpixel structure in QD-OLED and WOLED can still blur fonts – and you can feel it. But when it comes to visual experience, colours, and overall "premium feel" – it's very good.
Whole family, but not every one with OLED
Along with the M9, refreshed models M8 and M7 have also hit the shelves. Both still utilise classic LCD panels – without QD-OLED. The M8 targets the mid-range segment, while the M7 is a completely budget-friendly option. If someone wants a Smart Monitor from Samsung but doesn't necessarily need an OLED and 165 Hz, that's where they can look for savings.
SAMSUNG Smart M8
The M8 model is a kind of golden mean in the new line. We still get a 32-inch screen and 4K resolution, but without QD-OLED – here we have a classic VA LCD panel. The picture is still sharp and pleasant, although it doesn't have quite as much contrast and depth as an OLED.
Samsung also focuses on functionality in the M8 with an "all-in-one" approach: we have the Tizen system, access to popular streaming apps, a remote included, and even a built-in camera (with the option to physically detach it if someone doesn't trust plastic covers). This is equipment more suited for those who don't need top-notch picture quality but want a decent monitor with smart TV capabilities, ready to go right out of the box.
SAMSUNG Smart M7
Samsung M7 is the cheapest model in the series – and for good reason. It still has 32 inches, but instead of a 4K OLED or VA, we get a basic LCD panel with lower brightness and a 60 Hz refresh rate. There are no frills, no camera, and the design is more “office” than “lifestyle”.
But if someone is looking for an affordable monitor that can handle basic tasks – like browsing the internet, watching Netflix, or connecting a laptop via USB-C – then the M7 will be a sensible option. The Tizen system is also present, so you can still launch YouTube without a computer, although the overall picture quality will be noticeably lower than in the M8 or M9.
What’s it good for?
Samsung with its new range of Smart Monitors targets three different needs – and it’s clear when we look at the M7, M8, and M9 as a whole.
For those who just want a large screen with access to Netflix and YouTube, without any frills and at the lowest cost – there’s the M7. This is the most budget-friendly option out of the three, perfect for basic content consumption and the occasional laptop hookup.
If someone expects better image quality, wants a nicer design, a camera for video calls, and a more stylish piece of equipment for their home – then it’s worth looking at the M8. This is a compromise between price and functionality, with a smart TV system and a look that fits well in a modern interior.
And for those who want everything: beautiful colours, deep blacks, OLED, high refresh rates, and smart features in one device – there’s the M9. This is not a monitor for the typical office worker sitting 12 hours in Excel, but rather for those who work creatively, enjoy watching something in the evening, play games from time to time, and value image quality.
Three monitors – three different needs. Each has its "but", but at least it’s easy to find the one that suits your lifestyle.
