Philips has just begun the process of updating its Google TV televisions from 2023 and 2024, upgrading them from Android 12 to Android 14. This is the same version of the system that is factory installed in this year's 2025 models.
Initial update only via USB
According to the Toengel blog, new software appeared at the end of April, but exclusively as a file for manual installation via a USB drive. However, users have now started receiving the firmware as a standard OTA update, installed automatically.
What does Android 14 bring?
Although Google skipped number 13, Android 14 is not a major revolution. However, it does introduce some useful new features as well as improvements in performance, security, and accessibility. Among the previously announced features were including. Energy Modes and support for Picture-in-Picture (but not for streaming apps). The update also lays the groundwork for a new smart home control panel in ChooseTV.
Increasingly, new features are being delivered to ChooseTV directly from the cloud, but compatibility depends on the version of Android on the TV – which is why the update matters.
Models Covered by the Update
The update is being rolled out to Philips Google TVs from 2023 and 2024. Models from 2025, such as the Philips OLED810 currently being tested by FlatpanelsHD, come with Android 14 out of the box, though most new devices from the manufacturer are already running Titan OS instead of Google TV.

It’s worth noting that Android 14 is also appearing in devices from other manufacturers. Sony has already begun a similar rollout, and Google has updated Chromecast to the same version.
