Sony may be preparing the first major hardware revision of the PlayStation Portal. Two unannounced Sony Interactive Entertainment devices listed in the Wi-Fi Alliance database are marked CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105. The numbers closely resemble the current Portal from the CFI-Y1000 family, and earlier leaks suggested the device could get an OLED display in 2026.

New generation of the Portal appears in certification

Both devices have been classified as gaming hardware and, according to the documents, run Android 15. It's another hint pointing toward the PlayStation Portal. The current model also uses an Android-based system, while the PS5 runs on Sony's own operating system. However, OLED shouldn't be treated as confirmed. The Wi-Fi Alliance documentation does not reveal the type of display used or the rest of the specifications. What is known is that the devices support 2.4 and 5 GHz networks in a 1x1 configuration. So there's no 6 GHz support, and therefore no big step up in wireless connectivity capabilities. OLED appears in this story thanks to earlier information from KepleraL2. An insider claimed as early as January that Sony is working on another version of the PlayStation Portal with an OLED screen, expected to launch in 2026. The new documents do not confirm his information, but for the first time they show that Sony is indeed certifying new hardware from the same product family.

The current Portal still uses an LCD

The first PlayStation Portal has an 8-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution and allows gameplay at up to 60 fps. Initially the device was mainly a Remote Play terminal for the PS5, but Sony has significantly expanded its capabilities. Today, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can also stream selected games directly from the cloud, without needing to have their own PS5 switched on. Moving to OLED would mainly mean better blacks, contrast and overall image quality, but for now it’s unclear whether Sony will also change the resolution, refresh rate, processor or battery.
