TCL is primarily associated with televisions, monitors, and electronic equipment, but the Chinese giant has much bigger ambitions. The company has just launched a new manufacturing plant focused on solutions for the automotive industry. The goal is to utilise years of experience in screen technology to produce smart cockpits for modern electric cars.
TCL wants to leverage experience gained from screens
The new factory has been established in Shenyang, China, as a result of collaboration between TCL Industries and automotive manufacturer Brilliance China. The project started at the end of 2024, and by mid-2026, the facility achieved full production readiness. The site covers an area of over 25 thousand square metres and is equipped with dozens of assembly lines dedicated to producing automotive displays and complete smart cockpit systems. TCL hopes that the experience gained from televisions, monitors, and other electronic devices will enable it to effectively compete in the rapidly growing electric vehicle market. According to the company, the level of production automation exceeds 85 percent, which significantly reduces human involvement in the manufacturing process of individual components.
Smart cockpits are set to transform car interiors
The plant will produce a wide range of solutions intended for modern vehicles. Among them will be digital instrument clusters, central screens for multimedia systems, displays for passengers, entertainment systems for the rear of the cabin, and complete smart cockpit platforms. One of the most interesting projects is the development of a detachable screen for passengers. Such a solution would allow independent control of air conditioning, multimedia, or selected vehicle functions without the need to use the main control panel. This trend aligns with the direction of modern car development, which increasingly resembles mobile multimedia centres. Car manufacturers are focusing on complex screen systems and personalising passenger experiences, and TCL aims to be one of the suppliers of these technologies.
TCL's entry into the automotive industry shows how quickly the boundary between the consumer electronics world and the automotive sector is blurring. With a new factory, the company aims to provide advanced display systems and smart cockpits for the vehicles of the future. The growing popularity of electric vehicles means this could be one of TCL's most important development directions in the coming years.
