A new media player with Google TV has hit the market. The Chinese brand Mecool has presented the MEon1 model, which aims to compete with devices such as the Google TV Streamer, Apple TV 4K, and Amazon Fire TV Cube. It's a classic box rather than a stick-type device, allowing for a more powerful chipset and a greater number of ports.
What does MEon1 offer?
The device runs on a quad-core Amlogic S905X5M chipset (6 nm) with a Mali G310 V2 GPU. The manufacturer claims up to 30% higher performance compared to the average Google TV player, although real-world tests will show how that holds up in practice. The specifications include: 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.2, USB ports, HDMI 2.1 (with VRR and ALLM, but without 4K 120 Hz). The system is Google TV on Android 14, so the interface and app handling are identical to other certified devices.
Dolby Vision and Atmos as standard
ChooseTV MEon1 supports:
4K
HDR10 and HDR10+
Dolby Vision
Dolby Atmos
HEVC and AV1 codecs
4K content works in apps like Netflix and Disney+ thanks to full Google TV certification. Mecool ChooseTV MEon1 costs around 120 dollars / 100 euros. In the USA, this is a level above the Google TV Streamer, while in Europe, the device is more competitively priced than some competitors. MEon1 targets users who: want full support for Dolby Vision and Atmos, need an Ethernet and USB port, don’t want to overpay for more expensive premium models, but are not concerned about 4K 120 Hz. The biggest question mark remains the 2 GB RAM; by 2026, this will be the absolute minimum for Google TV.
