Into the Radius 2 will be another major release for owners of PlayStation VR2 headsets. The developers promise a significantly more expanded take on the survival shooter, where preparing for each outing will matter a great deal. The game will launch first with a full single-player campaign, while a free two-player co-op mode will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2026. The game is also set to make extensive use of the technical capabilities of Sony's headset.
Into the Radius 2 emphasises tactics and detailed loadouts
The creators of Into the Radius 2 want to put even more emphasis on preparation and a tactical approach to gameplay. Players will be able to configure their gear very precisely, including vests, backpacks, harnesses and the placement of individual pouches and holsters. This will matter in combat, because proper item placement will let you reach for your weapon or ammunition faster. A lot of attention has also been paid to the rifles and pistols themselves. It will be possible to swap barrels, stocks, sights, grips and magazines. Weapons can also be customised with over 15 colours and 10 camouflage patterns. The maintenance system will be even more important, as each piece of equipment will have its own level of wear and soiling. If a player neglects to clean their weapon, dirty parts can lead to the rifle jamming at the worst possible moment. This approach is meant to make preparation before the next outing as important as the fighting itself. The Pechorsk Zone has also been expanded and now includes new hazards and enemies. The developers also want to make greater use of the environment to tell the story, through scattered notes, mysterious artefacts and remnants of people. Altogether, this should create a far more demanding and immersive version of the world known from the first instalment.
PS VR2 to deliver even greater immersion
Into the Radius 2 has been developed to take advantage of PlayStation VR2’s capabilities. The Sense controllers’ adaptive triggers will provide varying resistance when using different types of weapons. Haptics in the controllers and headset will convey, among other things, vibrations from anomalies and impacts during combat. The game will run at a native 90 frames per second, which should translate to smoother movement and aiming. The developers will also use eye tracking and foveated rendering to maintain high image quality. Spatial audio will also play an important role, allowing players to hear approaching threats earlier. Among the enemies will be Mimics that can use cover, flank the player and cooperate with each other. Some anomalies will generate electrical discharges, others can destroy the environment or completely absorb light. An additional challenge will be the periodic Tide surge, which changes the placement of enemies and items. That means players won’t be able to rely on a single, always-safe route. Into the Radius 2 will debut on PS VR2 on 24 September 2026, and a free update with two-player co-op will arrive in the fourth quarter.
Into the Radius 2 looks set to be a considerably more expansive sequel to the survival VR shooter. The developers are focusing on detailed equipment, realistic weapon maintenance, demanding combat and much more unpredictable anomalies. The PS VR2 version will utilise the headset's features, including haptics, adaptive triggers, 90 FPS, eye tracking and spatial audio. The launch will take place on 24 September, and a two-player co‑op mode will be added free in Q4 2026.
