Google Cast is coming to Samsung TVs! Which models will receive support for Chromecast?

Until recently, Samsung TV users had to put up with certain limitations when it came to streaming content from their phones. The Korean giant promoted its own standards, but market pressure and consumer expectations led to the long-awaited breakthrough. Samsung has officially announced the integration of Google Cast technology (formerly known as Chromecast) in its TIZEN Smart TV receivers. This is a historic step that bridges the gap between the Tizen system and the vast Google ecosystem.

Google Cast alongside Smart View and AirPlay

Up until now, Samsung has based its wireless communication strategy on two pillars. Users of Android smartphones were encouraged (or rather forced) to use the proprietary solution Smart View, which, while functional, was mainly limited to full screen mirroring or working with selected applications within the Samsung ecosystem. Meanwhile, iPhone and iPad owners could use AirPlay technology. The introduction of Google Cast opens up a third avenue or expands the functionality of Smart View. This feature will be natively built into the system, meaning that users no longer need to purchase external Chromecast devices to sync their television with the entire Google ecosystem (e.g. Google Home).

What do we gain from Google Cast?

Unlike traditional screen mirroring (Smart View), Google Cast offers unique benefits:

  • Multitasking: You can send a movie from an app to the TV and still use your phone (send texts, browse social media) without interrupting playback.

  • Phone battery saving: Once streaming is initiated, the TV fetches the data stream from the cloud on its own, and the phone serves only as a remote.

  • Queueing content: The ability to create shared playback queues by multiple users simultaneously.

  • Smart Home: Google Cast should open the door to pairing the TV with the Tizen system and Google's proprietary Google Home solution.

Which models will receive the update?

Thanks to Samsung's policy of 7 years of support, we can expect that this feature will even reach older devices.

  1. 2026 Models: They will have Google Cast as a factory feature.

  2. 2025 and 2024 Models: They will receive support through a firmware update to version v2115 or newer.

  3. 2023 Models and earlier: Although the 2023 models are receiving system updates as they are supported by 7-year warranties, support for Google Cast has not yet been officially confirmed for them.
