Final Fantasy VII Revelation will offer on PlayStation 5 Pro a mode that combines high-quality visuals with smooth 60 frames per second. The game's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, confirmed that the developers will use PSSR technology, Sony's image reconstruction system, to achieve this.
Hamaguchi said the PS5 Pro has a mode designed to deliver 4K at 60 FPS. PSSR allows reconstruction of a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render, so the console's GPU doesn't have to produce every frame natively in 4K. In other words, it's the now-popular upscaling, this time in PlayStation's implementation.
According to accounts from people who had the chance to play the game's demo, it runs surprisingly well. Drops below 60 fps were said to be sporadic, and there's still plenty of time until release. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will debut on 8 April 2027.
The news that a game as big as FF VII Revelation runs this well could raise big hopes among console gamers. The title expands the library of games that natively support PSSR 2.0. The technology is still being developed by PlayStation. It’s likely that more and more new releases for the Japanese console will be able to be upscaled.
