ASUS has launched the ROG Gjallar soundbar. The model is aimed primarily at gamers but can also serve as the main audio system for a TV. The device offers 2.1.2-channel audio with Dolby Atmos support, a wireless subwoofer and an extra control panel. So far the unit has gone on sale in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Its price is €599.90 (roughly AUD 970,00 at a straight conversion). ASUS has not yet announced an official Polish price or availability date for our country.
Soundbar with HDMI 2.1
ROG Gjallar uses four 50-millimetre full-range drivers, two tweeters and two upward-firing channels. Low frequencies are handled by a wireless subwoofer with a 6.5-inch driver rated at 65 W. The manufacturer uses a 5 GHz wireless connection. It includes HDMI 2.1 with eARC, which also supports 4K at 120 Hz passthrough. There is also USB-C, two USB-A ports, an optical input, AUX and Bluetooth 5.3. The soundbar can be connected, among other devices, to a TV, computer, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
Separate panel with microphones
An interesting element of the set is a compact control panel with an LCD screen. It lets you change the audio source, adjust the equaliser and switch between profiles optimised for gaming, music and movies. The panel also houses microphones with echo cancellation. They're a nod to gamers, but it raises the question: how many of them would actually choose a soundbar for voice communication?
