Samsung raises the bar once again – this time not hardware-wise, but software-wise. The brand's televisions have just debuted the Perplexity AI app, one of the most serious competitors to ChatGPT. The innovation is already available on all models from the Tizen 2025 series, and will soon be available on 2023 and 2024 televisions through a software update.
What is Perplexity AI?
Perplexity is what is known as an AI answer engine – an answer engine that has one goal: providing precise, reliable information. Unlike ChatGPT, which serves as a universal assistant, Perplexity focuses solely on user questions and bases its answers exclusively on verified sources. According to its creators, this makes it more accurate and more "encyclopedic" than the competition.
The app on Samsung TVs simply allows you to ask a question – either by voice or through an on-screen keyboard – and the artificial intelligence will provide an answer in a matter of seconds. After each answer, Perplexity also suggests further questions, expanding the topic and encouraging the user to continue the conversation.
Free year of Perplexity Pro for Samsung TV users
As an incentive, Samsung offers all owners of its televisions a 12-month free access to Perplexity Pro. Simply scan the QR code displayed in the app. The Pro version not only provides faster responses but also access to models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, as well as the "Research" mode, which allows for creating in-depth reports and generating images.
How to Launch Perplexity on Your TV?
You can find the app in the Apps section or open it by voice using the Vision AI Companion – Samsung's new assistant, activated by the "AI" button on the remote. After the first launch, you need to accept the terms of use, and then you can ask anything:
– what to watch for Halloween,
– how to avoid doing the dishes,
– what to wear on a date,
– or even home remedies for a sore throat.
For those not using a microphone, an on-screen keyboard is available, or you can use an external USB keyboard.
Samsung Televisions – AI Center
Perplexity is not the only "smart" addition in the TVs of the Korean giant. During IFA 2025, the company unveiled Vision AI Companion – a system integrating various artificial intelligence functions into one coherent interface.
A month earlier, Bixby AI received the largest update in its history, becoming significantly more conversational. Now you can talk to it almost like you would with ChatGPT – asking for movie recommendations, game scores, or world news.
And that's not all – Microsoft Copilot has also appeared on Tizen screens, an assistant that integrates with the entire Microsoft ecosystem and offers similar functions to Perplexity, but with a greater focus on multimedia content and work.
AI in Televisions: A New Wave of Competition
Samsung is not alone. Google is introducing Gemini on Google TV, replacing the old Google Assistant. Roku has added the Roku Voice AI feature to its televisions, allowing for conversations in a ChatGPT style. Even Apple has a plan – the new Apple TV 4K with a more powerful chip is set to support Apple Intelligence, its own AI system.
Do we need so many assistants?
That's a good question – and probably none of them has a definitive answer yet. But one thing is certain: Samsung TVs are no longer just screens. They are increasingly resembling a home intelligence center, where artificial intelligence not only suggests what to watch but can also… answer almost any question.
