LG Display announces new Tandem WOLED panels for gamers. Higher resolution on the way to CES 2026!

LG Display announces new Tandem WOLED panels for gamers. OLED monitors with 4K resolution at 27 inches and a 5K ultrawide 39-inch panel are planned to debut at CES 2026.

LG Display is increasingly heating up the atmosphere ahead of CES 2026. The OLED panel manufacturer has released a new video on YouTube, announcing the next Tandem WOLED panels designed for gaming monitors. The most important announcement? A significant increase in resolution, which is set to debut next year.

The current offer is just the beginning

Currently, LG Display's offering in the OLED monitor segment is limited to 2K resolution panels in sizes of 27 and 39 inches, with impressive refresh rates of 280 Hz and even 540 Hz. However, this is just the beginning. The company has confirmed that it plans to expand its portfolio in 2026 with a new 39-inch ultrawide panel with 5K resolution, as well as a completely new 27-inch 4K panel.

Tandem WOLED instead of Primary RGB Tandem OLED

It's worth recalling that just a week ago, LG Display announced a name change for its most advanced technology from Primary RGB Tandem OLED to Tandem WOLED. These panels are being supplied to leading monitor manufacturers - such as Asus and Gigabyte - who are already offering 27-inch 1440p models with refresh rates of 280 Hz, 540 Hz, and even 720 Hz when the resolution is lowered to 720p.

Higher resolution with very high refresh rate

However, everything now indicates that LG Display wants to combine very high refresh rates with a distinctly higher resolution. A new promotional video showcased a 27-inch Tandem WOLED panel described as offering "high PPI for exceptional image sharpness." The manufacturer did not provide specific numbers, but it is hard to imagine an increase in pixel density without transitioning to a resolution higher than the current 2560 x 1440. Therefore, everything points to 4K.

39 inches and 5K ultrawide. A big leap in quality

More details have been revealed for the larger model. The 39-inch Tandem WOLED is expected to offer a 5K resolution in an ultrawide format, which most likely means 5120 x 2160 pixels. With this diagonal, it results in about 142 PPI - noticeably more than the current 39-inch WOLED panels with a resolution of 3440 x 1440. In practice, this means a significantly sharper image, not only in games but also in work and multimedia.

Missing details, but expectations are high

LG Display has not yet revealed which monitor brands will utilize the new panels. There is also a lack of information regarding refresh rates, brightness, or pricing. The video does explain, however, that Tandem WOLED technology allows for higher peak brightness and better color reproduction, so one can expect significantly stronger specifications than before.
