The best Sony televisions – which models are worth buying now?

Calendar 6/2/2025

Sony is a brand that needs no introduction – long associated with high quality, technological precision, and refined image. And although in recent years brands like TCL and Hisense have been making significant inroads, it is Sony that still remains one of the most esteemed television manufacturers in the world – especially among those who prioritize cinematic experiences, natural colours, and smooth visuals.

The offering for 2024 has proven to be exceptionally refined. Sony has showcased both top-tier Mini-LED models and high-end OLEDs, as well as a few more affordably priced options. But how do they stack up against the competition? Which models are worth considering? In 2025, many of these televisions will hit the first sales – which opens up the opportunity to purchase high-end models at a more attractive price.

In our roundup, we examine the Sony televisions that may be worth choosing.

🏆 Best Sony TV 2024

🏆 Best Mini-LED TV

Sony Bravia 9 is a television that sets new standards for Mini-LED technology in 2024. Even after the first tests, it was clear that the Japanese manufacturer was not going to concede ground to the competition – this model is a specific response to the strongest constructions from LG and Samsung, but with Sony’s characteristic approach to image quality.

Bravia 9 offers very high brightness, excellent contrast, and deep blacks, all of which combine to deliver a truly cinematic picture. The XR processor does an outstanding job and handles low-quality content remarkably well. Additionally, there is full integration with Google TV and excellent support for gaming features (HDMI 2.1, VRR, ALLM). This is undoubtedly the best LCD television from Sony ever made – and if you have the budget to afford the top model, Bravia 9 will be a purchase for years to come. Ideal for home cinema, but also for everyday use at a very, very high level.

Great Mini-LED for the sensible

Sony Bravia 7

🏆 Great picture from the lower premium tier

🏆 A very good alternative to the Bravia 9

Sony Bravia 7 is an option for those who want a picture close to the flagship, but without spending a fortune. It is a Mini-LED television that uses the same image processing technologies as the higher models, including the XR processor and local dimming, which makes the picture quality very similar to that of the Bravia 9. Admittedly – it does not reach the same maximum brightness and does not have quite as good viewing angles, but for most users the differences will not be worth the nearly double price increase. This television is perfect for both everyday viewing and evening sessions on Netflix. The television is equipped like other SONY models with Google TV, which operates smoothly. Additionally, full support for HDMI 2.1 and VRR makes it a sensible choice for gamers too! If you do not care about absolute maximum performance and want to save a considerable amount compared to the Bravia 9 – Bravia 7 is a perfect choice.

Best OLED SONY

Sony A95L

🏆 Best Sony OLED

🏆 Best OLED with Google TV system

Sony A95L is the most advanced OLED in the manufacturer's offering for 2024. It is based on a QD-OLED panel, which provides very high brightness for a television of this type and a wide colour palette. Black – as is characteristic of OLED – is perfect, and the image appears exceptionally clean and detailed even in difficult scenes. It is also the best choice for those who want to combine OLED quality with the convenience of Google TV. The system operates smoothly, offers access to all the most important applications and integrates well with the smart ecosystem. The A95L supports Dolby Vision, has very low input lag, and full support for features such as VRR and HGiG – making it suitable for gaming as well, although its price and characteristics are more aimed at users focused on movie sessions. The A95L model is not cheap and is difficult to consider as an option for everyone, but for those looking for the best possible OLED with Google TV, it is a very serious contender – especially now, as it starts to appear at lower prices ahead of the Sony BRAVIA 8 II launch.

Best SONY TV in the mid-price range

SONY X90L

🏆 Best SONY television in the mid-price range

Sony X90L is one of those models that proves you don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy very good picture quality. The television offers a classic design with FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) backlighting, which allows for good blacks. Although it is not Mini-LED, the X90L still performs better than most of the competition at a similar price point due to its very good processor. For those who enjoy movie sessions and expect colour fidelity and even backlighting, X90L will be a very good option. And although it is not the ideal television for gamers, it still has support for PS5 – HDMI 2.1, VRR, and low input lag make it suitable for console use as well. The X90L is simply a well-priced television with a cinematic flair that can be the perfect compromise between quality and a reasonably affordable price.

Best Cheap Sony Television

Sony X75WL

🏆 Best cheap Sony television

Sony X75WL is the lowest model in the range of the Japanese manufacturer, which attempts to fill the budget segment – but it must be said honestly that this is not a particularly successful attempt. Sony is not known for its lower-priced televisions, and unfortunately, this is evident here. The X75WL performs mediocrely against competitors in a similar price range – the blacks are shallow, the brightness is low, and the picture quality in the evening leaves a lot to be desired.

This is a model that may interest people very attached to the Sony brand, who care about the Google TV system and wide viewing angles resulting from the use of an IPS panel. In everyday use – watching the news, YouTube or series in a bright room – it will perform decently. But if you are not a loyal fan of the Japanese manufacturer, it is better to look for competitive models that simply offer more at this price.

One could say that this is the “best cheap Sony television,” but only because Sony… practically does not make cheap televisions.

Sony Bravia: excellent quality, less excellent prices

It cannot be denied – Sony does not make cheap televisions. And if they do create something budget-friendly, it unfortunately usually feels like it is not their natural environment. This is evident with the model X75WL, which is hard to defend against the competition, especially when viewed through the lens of price. But when Sony enters its territory – the mid-range and high-end market – things get really interesting. Bravia 9 or A95L are top-tier equipment, showcasing the characteristic image quality of this brand. Even the "old" X90L, as a cheaper alternative, impresses with its quality and can be the ideal compromise for many.

If you are looking for something special and have the right budget – Sony still knows how to make a great television. And if not? Then perhaps it's better to take a look at something from our TCL or Hisense list. But who knows – perhaps next year’s Bravia lineup will also bring something nice for the more budget-conscious?
