Philips has gone a bit against the grain with its 2024 models. Instead of sticking with the popular Google TV, the company decided to opt for its own system – Titan OS. This change affects most of the new models and… well, not everyone will like it. The system is simpler and works quickly, but one must reckon with the fact that not all the applications that were available before will be found here. As if that weren't enough, Philips still has its own style – slightly different terminology, several versions of the same model depending on the store or region… It’s easy to get lost in all of this. That’s why we’ve prepared this ranking – to make the choice easier. We focused on models that we believe simply make sense. And which are worth paying attention to!

The Philips OLED909 is a model that can easily stand alongside televisions such as the LG G4 or Panasonic Z95A – and not just because of its price. All three utilise the same OLED MLA technology, that is, a panel with micro-lenses, which significantly increases brightness and makes HDR effects look truly impressive. In addition, there is the excellent black level provided by every good OLED, along with support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, so in terms of picture quality, it is definitely one of the best models of 2024.
However, it must be said frankly – this is not a cheap television. The Philips OLED909 is clearly more expensive than the LG G4, which may be a deciding factor for many people. On the other hand, if someone cares about the Google TV system (with access to practically every imaginable app), better built-in sound (as it features a quite solid soundbar in the lower part of the casing), and of course Ambilight, which really makes a difference in the evening – then the OLED909 could be a very strong contender. Especially for those looking for an absolutely top-tier television.

Philips OLED809 (or 819 – depending on where you buy it) is a truly solid OLED that can deliver an excellent picture. It offers deep blacks, very good colour reproduction after calibration, and a fantastic HDR effect, thanks to support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The television also performs excellently in gaming – the 144 Hz panel, a complete set of HDMI 2.1 ports, low input lag, and full VRR support mean you can easily connect a console and get the most out of it. Daily use of the OLED809 runs on the Google TV system, which is fast, intuitive, and offers access to virtually every necessary app. If someone has previously used Android on their television, they will have no trouble adapting here. And of course, Ambilight, which still does the job – in the evening, it adds atmosphere and really enhances the viewing experience of films and series.
On the other hand, it must be said honestly that this is not the most cost-effective OLED on the market. At a similar price, you can find models such as Samsung's S90D with a QD-OLED panel or LG's C series, which offers very similar specifications at a lower price. However, if for someone Ambilight is a must-have and the Google TV system just "has to be," the OLED809 will certainly meet those requirements. And although the premium compared to the competition may sting, for many people, this specific set of features and experiences will simply be worth it.

The One series from Philips has been very popular for several years and is still holding up well in 2024. It is a mid-range television that performs well in many applications – particularly if you care about a smooth image and wide viewing angles. Philips has employed a 120 Hz panel here, making the television great for watching sports and dynamic content. It also features an IPS panel, which means that whether you are sitting directly in front or slightly to the side, the image does not lose contrast or colour. This model also performs well as a gaming TV. It has HDMI 2.1 ports, a very decent input lag, and support for essential gaming features. It is absolutely fantastic for consoles like the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. And as is typical with Philips – Ambilight continues to enhance the experience, especially during evening gaming or viewing. Oh, and
Of course, it is not a television without its flaws. The IPS panel and lack of local dimming mean that blacks will not be as deep as in other models, which you may notice especially in the evening. The Titan OS system also has its limitations – it is fast, but the number of available apps is still less than that of Google TV or Android TV. Nevertheless, in our opinion, it is a better choice than the more expensive MiniLED from the Xtra series. There, despite better technical parameters, the management of the backlight zones is mediocre enough that the results can be disappointing. The One series is more predictable and safer – and that is precisely why it ranks as the best Philips in the mid-range category.

Philips PML8709 is one of the most surprising models the company released in 2024. On one hand, we have MiniLED with a VA panel (65") – which delivers solid blacks, noticeably better than popular models like The One or The Xtra. On the other hand… it is one of the few LCD televisions in Philips' offer that does not run on Titan OS, but instead on the full version of Google TV. And that is what makes it somewhat of a 'holy grail' in Philips' LCD portfolio – we have more apps and a more familiar interface. But that's not the end of the surprises. The biggest shock is the absence of Ambilight. Yes, you read that right – Philips has released a television without its most distinctive feature. It is hard to say why – perhaps it was about cutting costs, or maybe positioning it in a different target group. In any case, if someone was counting on colourful lights on the wall, unfortunately, they won't find them in this model.
On the other hand, the PML8709 often comes with really attractive promotions. The 55-inch model can cost as much as a classic LCD on Titan, and then it’s hard to pass by it indifferently. So, if you don’t care about Ambilight but are looking for a cheap MiniLED with good blacks and the Google TV system – then the PML8709 could be a really sensible choice.
Which Philips television to choose?
As you can see, there is really a lot to choose from in Philips' offer in 2024. From top-tier OLEDs with MLA panels and Ambilight, to mid-range models, and even budget constructions without lights on the back of the television, but with good blacks and a Google TV system. Of course – none of these televisions are perfect (because which one is, after all?), but we have tried to select models that simply make sense. Whether for gaming, watching films, or everyday viewing in the living room.
