The coming week looks set to be particularly busy for owners of Xbox consoles and PCs. From 24 to 28 August, more than 20 new games will appear on Microsoft’s platforms, spanning a wide range of genres. There will be major releases, new instalments in well-known series and smaller indie projects. The end of the week looks especially interesting, when several highly anticipated titles arrive on Xbox.
Star Wars, A Plague Tale and Metal Gear Solid are the biggest releases next week
One of the most important releases will be Star Wars Zero Company, which debuts on 27 August. Electronic Arts' production is a single-player, turn-based tactical game set in the Star Wars universe at the end of the Clone Wars. Players will take command of the elite Zero Company squad and assume the role of Hawks, a former Republic officer. The same day will also see the release of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, a new title from Asobo Studio that takes the series in a completely new direction. The story is set 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem, and the protagonist is Sophia. This time the developers put more emphasis on combat, exploration and dynamic movement, and the player will, among other things, come across a mysterious island connected to the legend of the Minotaur. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will also debut on 27 August. The latest collection in Konami's iconic series will include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in HD. Fans of co-operative play can turn to Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2, where up to four players will assume the roles of Colonial Marines fighting hordes of Xenomorphs. Other notable releases include Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, featuring 110 playable characters, and Blood Dungeon, a demanding survival-focused platformer. The latter title will also arrive on Xbox Game Pass on 25 August.
From small indie games to strategy and survival: Xbox has releases to suit every taste
The list of releases is much longer and includes many smaller titles. On 25 August, among others, Once Human will arrive, a multiplayer survival game in which players must build shelter, fight monsters and uncover the mysteries of a post-apocalyptic world. A day earlier B.i.t will debut, a platformer based on exploring ten diverse worlds and gaining new abilities. On 26 August players will get, among others, Brigandine: Abyss, a strategy game that combines nation management with RPG elements, and Aggelos 2, a fast-paced action platformer. The same day will also see more relaxing titles such as Cozy Tiny Home, Comfy Corners: Unpack and Decorate and Whisper of the House. There will also be puzzle and collectible games, exemplified by Mech Shelf, A Tower Full of Cats and Hidden Cats in Barcelona. On 27 August the list grows with titles including Infection Free Zone, in which players will build a safe settlement after a global epidemic using real-world maps of locations. That day will also bring Lou's Lagoon, Tearscape, Murders on the Yangtze River, Horripilant and several smaller releases. The week will close with releases on 28 August, including 1964 Operation Velvet Twins, Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge 4 Remastered, Mighty Aphid: Remastered Edition, Once Alive, Rune Axe and Splash of Color. This means players on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC will have a lot of new titles to try next week.
