The long-awaited change has finally hit Spotify. You will hear the difference!

Calendar 10/7/2025

Spotify introduces lossless FLAC 24-bit/44.1 kHz audio quality. The new Spotify Lossless feature is now available to Premium subscribers at no extra cost.

After years of announcements and endless speculation, Spotify has finally delivered something that fans have been asking for a long time – lossless audio quality, namely Spotify Lossless. This is not another experiment or test on selected accounts. Since September 2025, the new feature has been gradually rolled out to users, and it now appears that it has practically reached all Premium subscribers. Importantly – at no additional cost.

FLAC instead of MP3. Finally, studio quality on Spotify

Until now, the highest streaming quality on Spotify, described in the app as “Very High,” meant a bitrate of 320 kb/s – in practice, lossy compressed files. For most people, this was “good enough,” but not for those who know what true FLAC sounds like.

The new Spotify Lossless mode uses FLAC format with parameters 24 bits / 44.1 kHz, which is exactly what is used in recording studios. As a result, no detail is lost from the recordings – vocals have more air, bass is fuller, and the soundstage is wide and natural.

Activation is straightforward: just go to

Settings → Media Quality → Lossless.

Equipment Matters

Spotify does not mention this directly, but you will only hear the difference if you have equipment that can showcase it. Cheap Bluetooth headphones will not deliver the full details – the signal itself is compressed using codecs like AAC or SBC.

If you really want to feel the difference, it's worth connecting wired headphones, a DAC, or good audio monitors. Alternatively – a device compatible with Spotify Connect and FLAC playback.

Phased implementation, but Poland is already on the list

A new quality is being introduced in phases in over 50 countries, with full availability – also in Poland – expected by the end of October 2025. Spotify does not send notifications about the new feature, so it is best to simply check the settings to see if the “Lossless” option has appeared.

It is also worth remembering that not the entire catalogue of the service has yet been converted to FLAC – initially, these are the most popular albums and playlists. The process will take time, but the direction is already clear.

Spotify is back in the game

For years, Apple Music and Amazon Music have outpaced Spotify by offering lossless streaming at the standard subscription price. Now Spotify is finally catching up – and in the best possible way: at no extra charge, in studio quality, and as part of the existing subscription.

For some, it's a detail, for others – the most important update to Spotify in years. Finally, it can be said: Spotify sounds like it always should have.
