TCL shows the future of televisions. 130 inches, foldable OLED and record colours

TCL during the SID Display Week 2026 presented several very futuristic display technologies. The company showcased, among other things, a huge 130-inch LCD panel, a foldable OLED monitor, and a new screen offering record coverage of the BT.2020 colour space. Everything indicates that the manufacturer wants to compete more fiercely with Samsung and LG not only in televisions but also in the market for modern OLED panels.

TCL presents a gigantic television and a foldable OLED monitor

One of the biggest attractions at the fair was the 130-inch LCD panel, which TCL describes as the largest of its kind in the world. Interestingly, despite its enormous size, the construction is less than 3 centimetres thick. The panel offers a 4K resolution and is likely to be featured in very expensive premium televisions in the future. This screen is intended to be the basis for new Samsung Micro RGB models and future TCL televisions. The company also showcased a particularly intriguing foldable OLED monitor made using inkjet printing technology. The panel can transform from a 16-inch screen into a 28-inch ultra-wide monitor. TCL claims that the new technology is set to be more energy-efficient than current OLEDs and at the same time offer a better RGB structure than some competing solutions. The manufacturer clearly signals that it wants to compete with LG WOLED and Samsung QD-OLED also in monitors and mobile devices.

New TCL technology could significantly improve HDR quality

However, the most futuristic is the new LCD panel using RGBC LED backlighting. In addition to the standard red, green, and blue diodes, a fourth colour, cyan, has also been added. As a result, the screen is expected to achieve as much as 131 percent coverage of the BT.2020 colour space, which is a figure significantly higher than today’s best premium televisions. Such a wide colour range could finally allow televisions to fully exploit the potential of modern HDR formats, such as HDR10+ or Dolby Vision. TCL also suggests that the technology may work with very high image brightness, potentially approaching as much as 10,000 nits. For now, however, it remains a demonstration technology that will likely only appear in consumer televisions in a few years.
