Steam once again shows who truly holds the cards in the PC market. The Valve platform has just broken a new record for activity, exceeding the threshold of 42 million logged-in users simultaneously. And this is at a time when there is no major release to artificially inflate the statistics. This result is impressive not only in scale but also in context.
Valve's Dominance Becomes a Reality
The rivalry between Steam and the Epic Games Store is increasingly heading in one direction. The latest market analyses show that Epic has become stagnant, recording growth of around 1.5% per year, which is practically within the margin of statistical error. Free games and Fortnite have ceased to be sufficient arguments to pose a real threat to Valve's position. Meanwhile, Steam is doing exactly what it does best – developing the platform without aggressive moves, controversial decisions, or annoying the community. For many players, it is precisely stability and predictability that have become key.
Record without the "seller system"
The most interesting thing about all this is that the record of over 42 million users was achieved without the support of a major AAA hit. There is no new Call of Duty, there is no premiere of GTA 6, there is no game that would simply explain such a surge in interest. This is the best proof that Steam has ceased to be just a game store. Today it is a complete platform – with a vast library, social features, a mod workshop, support for indie games, and regular promotions that effectively keep players engaged for years.
ChooseTV in place, Steam races on
While the Epic Games Store is still searching for its identity, Steam is systematically expanding its lead. New records are no longer surprising but have become the new norm. If nothing changes, Valve's dominance on PC could soon be not just a fact, but something completely indisputable. 42 million players online at the same time speak for themselves.
