"Not just better graphics." The head of CD Projekt reassures fans: The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 will not be simple continuations!

Calendar 11/24/2025

CD Projekt confirms: The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 will not be simple sequels - the studio is inspired by Baldur’s Gate 3, but is committed to its own style and new innovations.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has swept the competition off the board and has become one of the most influential games of recent years. It's no wonder that the production by Larian Studios has also caught the attention of CD Projekt Red. But if anyone was hoping that The Witcher 4 would suddenly turn into an isometric RPG with turn-based combat and a thousand interaction options, well… not this time.

Baldur’s Gate 3 inspires, but CDPR follows its own path

The website PC Gamer recently spoke with the president of CD Projekt, Michał Nowakowski. One of the questions concerned the direction in which the games division is heading and whether the phenomenon of BG3 has influenced the studio's plans. Nowakowski acknowledged outright — yes, Baldur’s Gate 3 is an inspiration, but it does not change the DNA of their productions:

“Baldur’s Gate 3 has been very inspiring, but I think we will still stick to what was in The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk. However, we do not want to simply create another identical game, just with better graphics. We want to introduce innovations.”

It is important to emphasise: CDPR does not intend to copy BG3, nor to change the genre of its games, but is closely observing how Larian approached interaction with the world and the reactivity of the environment.

Witcher 4 in the style of BG3? “Definitely not”

Nowakowski clearly distanced himself from the expectations that the fourth Witcher could follow in Larian's footsteps.

“We definitely do not intend to make a game like the one Larian made. That is the kind of game they are capable of creating. But the way of interacting with the world and how it reacts was certainly an inspiration for us.”

In other words - there will be no turn-based combat, there will be no isometric view, but there may be more depth in the world and in how it reacts to the player's actions.

Spin-off in the style of Divinity? Not at all

Although it could theoretically be interesting, Nowakowski firmly excluded such a direction. CDPR has a different philosophy today:

“At some point, we decided that our internal team must focus on core games, not on spin-offs.”

In short: now only large projects — like The Witcher 4 or the next Cyberpunk.

ChooseTV 4 is one of the most anticipated games in the industry

There is no doubt about it: the hype is immense. This is best demonstrated by the nominations and voting results; ChooseTV 4 appears in lists of the most anticipated productions of the year, including at the The Game Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards 2025. Competition? As always, brutal. But the expectations for CDPR are equally high, and it seems the studio does not want to take the easy route. There will be no ChooseTV 3.5 or Cyberpunk 1.5 with new graphics. There will be innovations.

And what kind? CDPR has yet to reveal that — but it promises to be a fascinating phase for the studio's fans.
