The creators of NBA 2K27 have revealed further details about the latest instalment of the basketball series. During a special presentation they showed, among other things, changes to The City, MyCareer, MyTeam and MyNBA. One of the biggest new features will be the ability to play MyCareer cooperatively with a friend. Players will also receive new player progression systems, historical eras and much greater customisation options.

The City and MyCareer will gain plenty of new features

NBA 2K27 is set to offer a more expanded version of The City, which will become a co-ed space for the first time. Players will be able to create a female MyPlayer and compete in The City alongside the wider community. Both male and female characters will use exactly the same player build system. This means height, badges, attributes and wingspan will depend on the build created, not on the character's appearance. All the major The City modes will be available to both types of MyPlayers. These include The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up and Starting Five. New additions will also include Crew HQ and Casual Corner. Female MyPlayers will, however, be limited to playing in The City. The developers have also prepared new environments for The REC, The Theater, Ante-Up and seasonal parks. The REC itself will randomly select one of five available locations, including a school gym, an outdoor court and a crowded arena. Significant changes will also affect MyCareer, as for the first time it will be possible to invite a friend to play together. The player will receive a special partner named Trace Miller, who can be developed and customised to suit them. A friend will be able to take control of Trace during co-op matches, and both players will keep their own rewards, VC and seasonal XP. This should make MyCareer a much more social experience.

New badge systems, MyTeam and MyNBA will change the way you play

A major change in NBA 2K27 will be the revamped Builder, which will get a Badge Tokens system. Players will be able to see in real time how a chosen height, position and attributes affect the badges available. The developers have prepared a total of 53 Badges, of which 19 will be brand new. Another new feature is the Badge Synergy system, which allows you to increase the effectiveness of selected badges. The system is split into two elements: Fuse and Reaction. A Fuse Badge can receive a permanent increase of one or two levels for the whole game, while a Reaction Badge activates after a set number of uses of the linked Fuse Badge. In MyTeam there will be the option to trade virtually any player cards for valuable rewards. Every card will now matter, because even items earned as season rewards will be usable in the Exchange system. The changes will also cover cards previously used to obtain collection rewards. MyNBA will gain a MyNBA Legacy mode, allowing you to run a single player through up to 100 years of NBA history. The player will be able to choose any player from the Modern Era and develop their attributes and badges. MyCareer will also receive five historical eras, including the Magic and Bird era, the Jordan era, the Kobe era, the LeBron era and the Stephen Curry era. This will make it possible to start a career in different periods of NBA history and watch how your own player fares in completely different circumstances. All these changes are intended to give NBA 2K27 much greater freedom both in building a player and in developing your career.

NBA 2K27 looks set to be a major update to the series' well-known formula. Key changes will include co-ed The City, co-op in MyCareer and new player progression systems. The developers will also revamp badges, MyTeam and MyNBA, and players will gain access to historic eras in MyCareer. NBA 2K27 will debut on 4 September, while owners of selected editions will be able to start playing as early as 26 August.
