Mecool MEon1 - a new box with Google TV, 4K and Dolby Vision challenges Apple and Google

Calendar 3/7/2026

A new multimedia player with Google TV has hit the market. The Chinese brand Mecool has introduced the MEon1 model, which is meant to compete with devices such as the Google TV Streamer, Apple TV 4K, and Amazon Fire TV Cube. It is a classic box rather than a stick-type device, which allows for a more powerful chipset and a greater number of ports.

What does MEon1 offer?

The device operates on a quad-core chipset Amlogic S905X5M (6 nm) with a Mali G310 V2 GPU. The manufacturer claims up to 30% higher performance compared to an average Google TV player, although real tests will show how this performs in practice. The specifications include: 2 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.2, USB ports, HDMI 2.1 (with VRR and ALLM, but without 4K 120 Hz). The system is Google TV on Android 14, so the interface and app support are identical to other certified devices.

Dolby Vision and Atmos standard

MEon1 supports:

  • 4K

  • HDR10 and HDR10+

  • Dolby Vision

  • Dolby Atmos

  • HEVC and AV1 codecs

4K content works in applications such as Netflix and Disney+ thanks to full Google TV certification. Mecool MEon1 costs around 120 dollars / 100 euros. In the USA, this is a higher level than the Google TV Streamer, while in Europe the device is more attractively priced compared to some competitors. MEon1 targets users who: want full support for Dolby Vision and Atmos, need an Ethernet and USB port, do not want to overpay for more expensive premium models, but do not care about 4K 120 Hz. The biggest question mark remains the only 2 GB RAM; in 2026 this is an absolute minimum for Google TV.
