Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has fallen victim to another breach of Denuvo's anti-tamper protection. DSOGaming reported that the bypass was carried out by an individual operating under the pseudonym voices38. The game was released on 9 July, so slightly more than a month elapsed between release and the breach. This is another instance showing that Denuvo does not guarantee lasting protection against unauthorised circumvention of security measures. The title itself is a fully fledged remake of the popular Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and introduces many changes compared with the original.
Denuvo in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been cracked
According to available information, Denuvo in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been cracked by someone using the pseudonym voices38. More than 30 days passed since the game's release on 9 July before the protection was successfully bypassed. By comparison, the previous major title with Denuvo whose protections were cracked was Crimson Desert. In that case only 11 days elapsed between the successive cracks. This shows how much the time required to bypass Denuvo can vary depending on the specific title. However, the mere cracking of the protection does not mean the publisher intends to abandon the technology in future games. Ubisoft may still decide to keep Denuvo in its other titles. In recent years, however, it has been noticeable that some publishers remove Denuvo from older games after a while. Such decisions have been made by, among others, Square Enix, Capcom, Bethesda and other major publishers. It is worth emphasising that circumventing protections to obtain unauthorised access to a game can infringe copyright and the software's terms of use. Thus, the information about Denuvo being cracked is primarily a curiosity regarding protections used in PC games.
The Black Flag remake offers much more than just a new look
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is not merely a refreshed version of the original with better graphics. Ubisoft has rebuilt the combat system, which is now intended to be faster and more dynamic. Parrying and flashy enemy takedowns play a bigger role. Stealth and parkour have also been improved, making movement around the world and escapes smoother. The ship Jackdaw remains an important element that can be upgraded as you progress through the game. The remake also received new naval mechanics and alternative firing modes. The developers have added new story content, which again features, among others, Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. Three new officers who can join the player’s crew have been added to the main story. One of the more interesting additions is the ability to dive underwater in almost any location. While sneaking you can also use a rope to pull enemies towards you and throw coins to distract guards. The whole game runs on the latest version of the Anvil Engine, and the PC version offers, among other things, ray tracing that improves global illumination and reflections.
The cracking of Denuvo in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced occurred just over a month after the game's release. This is another case in which the popular anti-piracy protection has been successfully bypassed. The remake itself, however, has far more to offer than a mere graphical refresh. Ubisoft have reworked combat, stealth and parkour, and have also added new story elements and mechanics related to exploration. The game also uses the modern Anvil Engine and offers ray tracing support on PC.
