LG Electronics is preparing to launch one of the most spectacular televisions ever to hit the market. Following its debut in South Korea in October, LG Magnit Active Micro LED will be available in the American market in January. This is an absolutely uncompromising design – created with private home cinemas, luxury residences, and clients for whom size and price are of little consequence.
136 inches and modular construction
The new Magnit is a true colossus – 136 inches diagonal, over 3 metres wide and about 1.7 metres high. The television has a modular design and consists of four 68-inch cabinets, which house smaller Micro LED modules with a resolution of 480 x 540 pixels and pixel pitch of 0.78 mm. LG also boasts an improved design that makes the connections between the panels nearly invisible.
Active Matrix – a key innovation
The most significant change compared to earlier Magnit models is the implementation of Active Matrix technology. This is the first LG Micro LED to utilise such a solution. Unlike passive systems, where control occurs in rows or columns, Active Matrix allows for the independent control of each pixel. The result? Significantly better image precision, higher scene realism, and even greater control over brightness and contrast. LG declares a contrast level of 1,000,000:1, which – at least on paper – positions the Magnit Active Micro LED at the absolute forefront of the market.
MicroLED better than OLED
MicroLED has long been regarded as a technology that surpasses OLED. The pixels are self-emissive, do not use organic materials, do not degrade, and can achieve significantly higher brightness. This means deeper blacks, powerful contrast, and no risk of burn-in. The new Magnit has also received the TÜV Rheinland Colour Consistency Wide Viewing certification, confirming the maintenance of consistent colours and contrast even at very wide viewing angles – which is extremely important with a size of 136 inches.
α9 AI Processor Gen 6 and 144 Hz
The heart of the television is the α9 AI Processor 6th generation, which is the most powerful chip from LG. The processor analyses the image in real-time, recognising faces, objects, backgrounds, and text, optimising them separately, reducing noise and enhancing clarity scene by scene. On board, we find:
Dolby Vision HDR
refresh rate up to 144 Hz
next-generation gaming features
HDMI with eARC
Sound is generated by a built-in 4.2 system with 100 W power, with speakers located on the sides of the screen – although in this class of product, hardly anyone can do without external audio.
Price? Astronomical
LG does not disclose an official price – neither in the USA nor in South Korea. According to industry leaks and reports cited by, among others, Google Gemini, the cost may exceed 250,000 dollars. This effectively limits the pool of potential buyers to the absolute elite. A more "down-to-earth" option is the announced smaller version of Magnit Active Micro LED, planned for next year – although it is unlikely to end up in the showrooms of the average consumer.
Premiere at CES 2026
Sales in the USA are set to begin on 6th January, concurrently with the presentation of the television at the CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The LG Magnit Active Micro LED is a display of strength and a technological manifesto – a product that defines the direction of market development more than it realistically competes for mass sales. One thing is certain – this is what the future of televisions looks like, even if today only a few can afford it.
