LG enters the game in the premium wireless audio segment. At CES 2026, the company presented LG Sound Suite, its first speaker ecosystem based on Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology. This solution aims to combine the flexibility known from Sonos with true Dolby Atmos spatial sound – without wires and the classic amplifier mess.
What is Dolby Atmos FlexConnect
Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is a new audio platform where speakers connect wirelessly directly to the television or soundbar, and the system calibrates itself to the room conditions. Thanks to active acoustic correction, the speakers do not have to be placed in "ideal" locations – they can be on shelves, in corners, or behind the sofa.
As Dolby emphasises, it is all about maximum freedom of configuration without compromising sound quality. This aspect is said to pose the biggest threat to Sonos, which has dominated the modular audio system segment for years.
LG Sound Suite – system components
The new LG Sound Suite ecosystem consists of several components that can be combined in various configurations:
LG H7 – 3.1.2 soundbar with upward and side-firing speakers, the first soundbar on the market with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect
LG M5 – compact 2.1.2 speakers
LG M7 – larger 4.1.2 speakers
LG W7 – 8” subwoofer that can stand vertically or lie flat, with a claimed bass response down to 25.9 Hz
All drivers are supplied by the Danish company Peerless Audio, and the H7 soundbar is powered by the Alpha 11 Gen 3 processor, known from LG OLED televisions for 2026.
Soundbar is not mandatory
One of the more interesting aspects of FlexConnect is that the soundbar is not always necessary. LG demonstrates configurations where four M7 speakers act as front and rear channels, connecting directly to the LG TV from 2026. This approach is quite reminiscent of the Sony Theatre Quad concept – only without a cable to the central unit.
Alternatively, the system can be built in a classic way: the H7 soundbar as the centre, paired with M5 or M7 speakers as satellites and the W7 subwoofer. Importantly, the system can be expanded over time, just like in the Sonos ecosystem.
Up to 13.1.7 Dolby Atmos Channels
LG declares that it is currently possible to configure up to 13.1.7, which means:
13 channels at ear level
1 subwoofer
7 height channels
In practice, the system supports:
up to 4 wireless speakers
1 subwoofer
direct connection to the TV or soundbar
Initially, there are 27 different configurations available, and LG emphasises that this is more than what Sonos offers – especially in terms of flexibility in speaker placement.
Limitations – like Sonos
However, not everything looks perfect. Mixing speakers from different brands is still not possible, despite initial claims about FlexConnect in 2023 suggesting otherwise. In practice, this means a closed ecosystem – exactly like with Sonos.
A certain question mark remains over the signal delay. Dolby acknowledges that FlexConnect introduces latency, which can be compensated for during viewing films and series. LG has not yet confirmed whether the system will be fully usable for gaming on consoles in 2026.
Support for LG TVs
Dolby Atmos FlexConnect will natively be available on selected LG TVs from 2026, and the update will also be made available for models from 2025:
G5
C5
C5S
QNED9M
Sound Suite also supports music features, including AirPlay, Google Cast, and Spotify Connect, allowing it to be treated as a full-fledged audio system for music.
When and for how much
The market launch of the LG Sound Suite is scheduled for 2026. Prices have not yet been revealed, but all indications suggest that LG is aiming for the premium segment – right where Sonos has dominated for years. One thing is certain: Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is finally making its way to a major player, and LG may be the first company to genuinely threaten Sonos's dominance in the world of wireless home cinema.
