James Cameron still believes in 3D. The director wants to remake "Aliens" into a new version.

James Cameron is not planning to give up on 3D technology and still considers it the future of cinema. The director of the Avatar series once again openly defends both 3D films and high frame rate (HFR) technology, arguing that such an image best corresponds to how the human eye perceives reality. Interestingly, Cameron also revealed that he is considering creating a new version of the iconic Aliens in 3D technology.

Cameron considers 3D to be a “better format” and continues to develop this technology

In a new interview, Cameron explained that his fascination with 3D has been with him since childhood, and later technological advancements finally allowed him to realise his own vision of spatial cinema. The director emphasises that 3D much better reflects the way humans naturally perceive the world, which is why, in his opinion, it should be a standard of modern entertainment. The creator of Avatar is also continuing to develop High Frame Rate technology, which means a higher frame count. In the latest films from the Avatar universe, he used 48 frames per second instead of the standard 24 fps, which was intended to improve fluidity and viewing comfort in 3D. Cameron claims that HFR is not a separate format, but a tool that allows for even greater immersion while watching spatial films.

“Aliens” may get a new 3D version after years

The most interesting piece of information from the interview is the possibility of creating a 3D version of the 1986 film “Aliens”. Cameron admitted that the current conversion tools are significantly better than they were a dozen years ago, allowing classic films to be adapted to 3D with much more precision and naturalness.

This is particularly intriguing as Cameron himself has previously been quite critical of poor 3D conversions made by Hollywood following the success of Avatar. The director believed at that time that the technology should mainly be used to refresh iconic productions, rather than quickly profiting from poorly prepared spatial effects. However, it seems he now sees a real opportunity to create a modern version of “Aliens” that could once again hit cinemas and showcase the science fiction classic in a completely new form.
