Nintendo may be preparing the first major hardware change for the Switch 2. A new LCD panel has been spotted online which, according to available information, is said to differ from the display used in current console units. The leak suggests that Sharp, not the previous supplier, is responsible for its production. Although the manufacturer has not confirmed any changes, the new information has caused considerable interest among players. This is because the screen was one of the most frequently criticised elements of the Switch 2.
Leak points to an entirely new LCD panel from Sharp
New information comes from a Chinese e-commerce site, where a listing appeared showing a previously unknown LCD panel intended for Nintendo Switch 2. Based on the model number analysis, the display appears to be produced by Sharp, which could replace the current screen supplier, Innolux. The new panel uses different cabling, connectors and electronic circuitry, suggesting a more extensive update than a simple manufacturing change. The model number LS079T1SX10P indicates the use of LTPS LCD technology, a 7.9-inch diagonal and a 1080p resolution. Another point supporting the leak's authenticity is an earlier Sharp financial report in which the company said it would increase production of mobile device displays from the end of 2025. It is not known, however, whether the panel will appear in new Switch 2 units this year or only in a future hardware revision. Nintendo has not commented on the reports. For now everything remains unofficial. The leak itself is detailed enough, however, to have generated significant interest within the community.
Nintendo may answer the biggest criticism of the Switch 2
One of the most frequently raised topics after the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 was the use of an LCD screen. Many players had expected an OLED panel, especially since the previous generation of the console received such a version. Nintendo, however, chose to stick with an LCD display, citing technological development and the capabilities of modern panels. Despite the higher 1080p resolution, the screen was criticised, among other things, for a relatively slow response time, which during fast camera movements caused motion blur. A new panel from Sharp could solve at least some of these issues, although so far no information has emerged regarding its specifications or image quality. It is also not known whether the change would affect brightness, contrast or colour reproduction. For years Nintendo has been making minor revisions to its consoles without staging major launches of new models. So it is possible the same will be true for the Switch 2. Until official confirmation, however, all information should be treated as leaks.
A new leak suggests Nintendo may be preparing a refreshed LCD display for the Switch 2, manufactured by Sharp. The change could improve one of the console's most frequently criticised elements, but the manufacturer has yet to confirm the reports.
