For the last two months, users of Apple TV 4K, Samsung Smart TV, and several other platforms have had reasons to be frustrated. Disney+ – a service that should be a benchmark for quality in streaming – has had serious issues with playing content in 4K HDR. The frame rate and dynamic range matching features have not been functioning properly, causing the image not to look as it should. And while one might wonder how it is possible for such a large company to allow such long neglect, today we finally have good news. The update to the Disney+ app, version 4.11.0, resolves all these issues – at least on Apple TV 4K and Samsung televisions.
Apple TV 4K returns to the throne
For many viewers, Apple TV 4K has long been the best device for watching streaming in the highest quality. The problem was that recent weeks have undermined that status – it was enough to start any series in Dolby Vision to see a lack of refresh rate matching or the wrong HDR mode.
Samsung Smart TV has also breathed a sigh of relief
Not only can owners of Apple set-top boxes rejoice in the improvement. Disney+ has also released an update for Samsung televisions, which are once again streaming in 4K HDR10. Just download the new version of the application and the problem disappears.
What's next? We are waiting for HDR10+
The whole story shows that the problems were related to the preparations for the introduction of support for HDR10+. Disney has been testing this format for some time, and it seems that its premiere is just around the corner. The question is, after what we have seen in recent weeks, will viewers have confidence in the stability of the application?
If Disney learns from the experience, we can expect even greater support for modern image technologies. For now, the most important thing is that the platform finally works as it should – and that we can once again watch our favourite films and series in the quality for which we pay.
