Calendar 6/2/2025

Sony is a brand that needs no introduction – associated for years with high quality, technological precision, and refined picture. And while brands like TCL and Hisense have been making significant inroads in recent years, Sony remains one of the most respected television manufacturers in the world – especially for those who prioritise cinematic experiences, natural colours, and smooth motion.

The 2024 lineup has proven to be exceptionally refined. Sony has showcased both high-end Mini-LED models and top-tier OLEDs, as well as a few more affordable options. But how do they stack up against the competition? Which models are worth considering? In 2025, many of these televisions will make it to the first sales – opening the opportunity to purchase high-end models at a more attractive price.

In our overview, we take a look at Sony televisions that might be worth choosing.

🏆 Best Sony TV 2024

🏆 Best Mini-LED TV

Sony Bravia 9 is a television that sets new standards for Mini-LED technology in 2024. From the very first tests, it was clear that the Japanese manufacturer was not going to give ground to the competition – this model is a concrete response to the strongest builds from LG and Samsung, but with Sony's characteristic approach to picture quality.

Bravia 9 offers very high brightness, excellent contrast, and deep blacks, all of which come together to create a truly cinematic image. The XR processor does an outstanding job and handles low-quality materials exceptionally well. Additionally, there is full integration with Google TV, and great support for features for gamers (HDMI 2.1, VRR, ALLM). Without a doubt, it is the best LCD television from Sony ever made – and if you have the budget to afford the top model, Bravia 9 will be a purchase for years to come. Perfect for home cinema, but also for everyday use at a very, very high level.

Great Mini-LED for the sensible

Sony Bravia 7

🏆 Great picture from the lower premium range

🏆 A very good alternative to the Bravia 9

Sony Bravia 7 is an option for those who want a picture close to a flagship without spending a fortune. This is a Mini-LED television that uses the same image processing technologies as the higher models, including the XR processor and local dimming, ensuring that the picture quality is very similar to the Bravia 9. Sure, it doesn't reach the same maximum brightness and doesn't have quite as good viewing angles, but for most users, the differences won't be worth the nearly double price. This television is great for both everyday viewing and evening sessions on Netflix. The TV is equipped like other SONY models with Google TV, which runs smoothly. Additionally, full support for HDMI 2.1 and VRR makes it a sensible choice for gamers as well! If you’re not after absolute maximum performance and want to save a significant amount compared to the Bravia 9 – the Bravia 7 is a perfect choice.

Best OLED SONY

Sony A95L

🏆 Best Sony OLED

🏆 Best OLED with Google TV system

Sony A95L is the most advanced OLED in the manufacturer's lineup for 2024. It is based on a QD-OLED panel, which provides very high brightness for a TV of this type and a wide colour palette. Black – as expected from an OLED – is perfect, and the image presents exceptionally clear and detailed even in challenging scenes. It is also the best choice for those who want to combine OLED quality with the convenience of using Google TV. The system runs smoothly, offers access to all the most important applications, and integrates well with the smart ecosystem. A95L supports Dolby Vision, has very low input lag, and full support for features such as VRR and HGiG – making it suitable for gaming as well, although its price and characteristics are rather geared towards users focused on movie watching. The A95L model is not cheap, and it's hard to consider it a suggestion for everyone, but for those looking for the best possible OLED with Google TV, it is a very serious contender – especially now, as it starts to appear at lower prices ahead of the Sony BRAVIA 8 II launch.

Best SONY TV in the mid-price range

SONY X90L

🏆 Best SONY TV in the mid-range price segment

Sony X90L is one of those models that proves you don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy very good picture quality. The television offers a classic design with FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) backlighting, which allows for good blacks. Although it's not Mini-LED, the X90L still performs better than most competitors in a similar price range due to its very good processor. For those who enjoy movie sessions and expect colour fidelity and even backlighting, X90L will be a very good option. And while it may not be the perfect television for gamers, it still has support for PS5 – HDMI 2.1, VRR, and low input lag ensure it performs well with consoles as well. The X90L is simply a well-priced television with a cinematic flair that can be the ideal compromise between quality and a reasonable price.

Best Cheap SONY TV

Sony X75WL

🏆 Best cheap Sony TV

Sony X75WL is the entry-level model in the offering from the Japanese manufacturer, which is trying to fill the budget segment – but it must be said honestly that it's not a particularly successful attempt. Sony is not known for low-end televisions, and unfortunately, this shows here. The X75WL performs average against competitors at a similar price – blacks are shallow, brightness is low, and the picture quality in the evening leaves a lot to be desired.

This is a model that may interest people very attached to the Sony brand, who value the Google TV system and wide viewing angles resulting from the use of an IPS panel. In everyday use – watching news, YouTube or series in a bright room – it performs decently. But if you are not a loyal fan of the Japanese manufacturer, it’s better to look for competitive models that simply offer more at this price.

It could be said that this is the “best cheap Sony TV”, but only because Sony… practically doesn't make cheap televisions.

Sony Bravia: great quality, less great prices

You can't hide it – Sony doesn't make cheap TVs. And when they do create something budget-friendly, it's often clear that it's not their natural environment. This is evident with the X75WL model, which is hard to defend against the competition, especially when looking at it through the lens of price. But when Sony steps onto its turf – the mid-range and high-end segment – things get really interesting. The Bravia 9 and A95L are top-tier gear, with the brand's characteristic picture quality. Even the "old" X90L, as a cheaper alternative, surprises with its quality and can be the perfect compromise for many people.

If you're looking for something special and have the right budget – Sony still knows how to make a great TV. And if not? Then it might be better to check out something from our list of TCL or Hisense. But who knows – maybe next year's Bravia lineup will also bring something exciting for those more budget-conscious?
