After years of announcements and endless rumours, Spotify has finally delivered something fans have been asking for a long time – lossless audio quality, or Spotify Lossless. This isn't another experiment or a test on selected accounts. Since September 2025, the new feature has been gradually rolled out to users, and now it seems that it has practically reached all Premium subscribers. Importantly – at no extra cost.
FLAC instead of MP3. Finally studio quality in Spotify
Until now, the highest streaming quality in Spotify, described in the app as “Very high,” meant a bitrate of 320 kb/s – practically lossy compressed files. For most people, this was “good enough,” but not for those who know what true FLAC sounds like.
The new Spotify Lossless mode uses FLAC format with parameters of 24 bit / 44.1 kHz, which is exactly what is used in recording studios. This means that no detail is lost from the recordings – vocals have more air, bass is fuller, and the soundstage is wide and natural.
Activation is simple: just go to
Settings → Media content quality → Lossless.
Equipment Matters
Spotify doesn’t mention this directly, but you’ll only hear the difference if you have equipment that can showcase it. Cheap Bluetooth headphones won’t deliver the full detail – the signal is compressed there by codecs like AAC or SBC.
If you really want to feel the difference, it’s worth connecting wired headphones, a DAC, or good audio monitors. Alternatively – a device compatible with Spotify Connect and FLAC playback.
Stage implementation, but Poland is already on the list
A new quality is being introduced in stages in over 50 countries, and full availability – including in Poland – is expected to occur by the end of October 2025. Spotify does not send notifications about the new feature, so it's best to just check the settings and see if the "Lossless" option has appeared yet.
It's also worth noting that not the entire catalogue of the service has been converted to FLAC yet – initially, these are the most popular albums and playlists. The process will take time, but the direction is already clear.
Spotify is back in the game
For years, Apple Music and Amazon Music have outpaced Spotify, offering lossless streaming at the standard subscription price. Now Spotify is finally catching up – and in the best possible way: at no extra cost, in studio quality, and as part of the existing subscription.
For some, it’s a detail, for others – the most important update to Spotify in years. Finally, it can be said: Spotify sounds as it always should have.
