The market for ultra-fast gaming OLED monitors is just gaining momentum. LG and ViewSonic have officially presented their first 540 / 720 Hz models based on the new RGB Tandem OLED panel (4th generation OLED from LG Display), which is set to directly compete with QD-OLED.
So far, the fastest version of this panel has been used in monitors from Asus and Acer. The absence of LG Electronics among the launch partners was quite a surprise, but the company is making up for lost time by presenting the LG 27GX790B model. ViewSonic responds with the XG273F-2K-OLED design.
One panel, two modes: 540 Hz or 720 Hz
All four monitors – from Acer, Asus, LG and ViewSonic – are based on the same 27-inch flat OLED panel with a resolution of 2560 × 1440. The specifications look impressive:
full coverage of DCI-P3
true HDR
brightness up to 1500 nits (window 1.5%)
335 nits full screen, significantly more than the previous generation of OLED
response time 0.02 ms G2G
The panel operates natively at a refresh rate of 540 Hz at 1440p, but thanks to the dual-mode, users can switch to 720 Hz at 720p. Importantly, at 720 Hz, OLEDs are likely to offer better motion clarity than upcoming 1000 Hz LCD monitors, precisely because of the extremely low pixel response time.
Differences in performance and connections
Despite the identical panel, manufacturers differentiate their models through details:
Asus
coating glossy
DisplayPort 2.1a (80 Gb/s)
LG 27GX790B
coating matte
HDMI 2.1
DisplayPort 2.1 (without confirmed bandwidth)
ViewSonic XG273F-2K-OLED
HDMI 2.1
DisplayPort 1.4
This shows that not only the panel, but also the choice of ports can be crucial for the most demanding gamers.
Prices and Availability
LG and ViewSonic models will be available for sale soon, however, their prices have not yet been disclosed. More details are expected during CES 2026. For reference – Asus PG27AQWP is already available for purchase.

What does this mean for the market?
RGB Tandem OLED is hitting the market with a very strong start. 540 Hz at 1440p and 720 Hz at 720p, higher brightness, and full HDR mean we're talking about a new stage in esports monitors. If the prices from LG and ViewSonic prove to be competitive, the LCD market could face a serious problem. It seems that 720 Hz OLED will become the new benchmark for the most demanding gamers.
