We’ve seen the new line of LG TVs for 2026 with our own eyes and we have some conclusions that will somewhat “straighten out” your view of the offering from the Korean giant. Instead of repeating marketing slides like others do, we prefer to focus on what really stands out when you stand in front of these screens. We start with the model that generates the most excitement, which is the LG OLED W6!
LG W6 Design is F E N O M E N A L
LG OLED W6. This model, known as the wallpaper TV, is back in the portfolio after a few years' break, and we must admit that it makes a stunning impression in person. This is a premium device – Premium with a capital P.
The most striking feature is its slimness: according to the manufacturer's data, its thickness is just under 9.9 mm. For comparison, we matched it up against the latest iPhone and it turns out the phone can be quite chunky in places. To ensure such a thin screen fits perfectly against the wall, it is mounted on two special brackets (each requiring 4 screws). What took us by surprise was the device's frame – it has been finished in ebony wood. It looks stunning, especially since LG showcased it against a glass wall during the presentation. The ebony is not just for decoration; the wood has excellent thermal conductivity properties, which is crucial for cooling such a bright panel in such an extremely thin construction.
Tandem OLED 2nd gen. hits the action
Under the hood (or rather under the wood 😉) there are some significant technological changes. In the W6, we’ll find a new generation of the Tandem OLED (2nd generation) panel supported by Hyper Diamond Color technology. We didn’t just rely on the manufacturer’s assurances – we tested it on our test boards.
We recorded an improvement of around 10% compared to the G5 model in our HDR testing procedure.
In the brightest scenes, the difference reached a maximum of 400 nits compared to the 1st generation Tandem OLED panels.
This is real progress that is visible to the naked eye. Of course, we're talking more about evolution than revolution, but it's great that LG has managed to fit such parameters into such a slim design.
Our notes: Two downsides you need to know when choosing the LG OLED W6
Unfortunate power supply
Due to the engineering decisions that had to be made during the construction of W6; the power cable exits from the side of the device (to the right side when looking from the back), not centrally. It may sound like nitpicking (and you might have a point), but most people prepare cable trays in the very centre of the wall. In W6, there is no room at the back for special conduits, so if you want to run the cable to the centre, you must come to terms with the fact that the TV will stick out slightly from the wall at the bottom edge.
Missing physical ports
W6 is an almost entirely wireless model (excluding power). Everything connects to the new, slimmer Zero Connect module (4 HDMI 2.1 ports). The problem? There isn't a single HDMI socket in the television itself.
Our tests of similar solutions from competitors, and even foreign reviews of the wireless LG M5 model, clearly show that transmitting images wirelessly generates an increase in input lag, sometimes even 3 or 4 times compared to wired transmission. Of course, for most users, the difference between 5 ms and 20 ms is practically unnoticeable and no one is going to throw their controller at the wall because of it. You simply need to be aware that this wireless module is not magic. If you place it a few metres further away, behind the couch, and plug your PS5 in there, don't expect the latency to remain at the best level.
But what are we getting at since it's not such a problem?
It's just a shame that LG didn't opt for at least one physical connection in the television. We're not even talking about an HDMI port but USB-C with DP (we've already seen that in competitors), which would help maintain the slimness of the W6. If such a port were available, gamers would have peace of mind and certainty that they are always getting the absolute best performance that this panel can offer. Without one connection in the TV, that certainty is always somewhat elusive.
Is it worth waiting for the LG W6?
The LG OLED W6 is phenomenal equipment in many respects. The new 2nd generation Tandem OLED panel guarantees an incredible image that will surely impress during final tests in our lab. It could be one of the best, if not the best television of 2026... however, in aspiring to such a title, it must face our harsh evaluation 😉. One must be aware of certain compromises, such as the specific power mounting or the lack of physical connectors, which simply need to be accepted when choosing this model.
We don't want to bore you with one big monolith of text (that will be covered in our full review). In the upcoming articles in the "First Impressions" series, we will take a look at other LG models from the 2026 line and new features, so we can share these technical tidbits with you. Soon, Maciej will record a full report for you, where he will share his thoughts on the entire new LG series!
