ASUS has just launched the first professional 8K monitor with HDR support. The ProArt PA32KCX model has a 32-inch display, a resolution of 7680 × 4320 pixels, miniLED backlighting with 4032 zones, and a brightness of up to 1200 nits. It sounds like gear from the future – and in some ways, it truly is.
8K finally for professionals
Although 8K has yet to break into the mainstream, it’s essential to have the tools that allow creators to actually work with such resolution before it arrives in our living rooms.
That’s exactly the goal of ASUS PA32KCX – a monitor designed for editors, colourists, photographers, and graphic designers who need to see every detail.
On the 32-inch screen, we have over 33 million pixels, translating to a density of 275 PPI. The panel is a 10-bit IPS LCD with miniLED backlighting (4032 local dimming zones). Maximum brightness reaches 1200 nits, with typical brightness at 1000 nits, covering 97% DCI-P3 and 99% AdobeRGB. The monitor is factory calibrated, but it can also be recalibrated with hardware thanks to the built-in colourimeter and compatibility with Calman and Light Illusion.
Full HDR Support – Including Dolby Vision
ASUS advertises the PA32KCX as the first 8K monitor with true HDR. It supports HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision, and the number of 4032 local dimming zones is quite impressive. In practice, each zone controls around 8200 pixels – that’s much more precise backlighting than typical miniLED screens. How will this translate into real-world effects? That will be revealed in tests, but the specifications provide reasons for optimism.
Connections, Features and Ergonomics
Onboard, we find everything expected from ProArt class equipment:
2× Thunderbolt 4 (96 W Power Delivery, daisy chain)
1× DisplayPort 2.1
2× HDMI 2.1
USB 3.2 Gen 2 hub
KVM Switch
VRR (Adaptive-Sync)
HDR Preview
ProArt Preset modes (including sRGB, AdobeRGB, BT.2020, DCI, Dolby Vision)
There is also a surround light sensor, proximity sensor, height and pivot adjustment, as well as built-in 2×3 W speakers.
Price? We still don't know, but it won't be cheap
ASUS has announced the launch in October 2025, and the price – although still undisclosed – will definitely not be low. This is equipment for professionals that will finally enable real work in 8K HDR, not just its simulation.
If Dell was a pioneer of 8K resolution in 2017, then ASUS PA32KCX could become the first monitor that actually shows the true purpose of 8K.
