Although the rear-firing woofer on the U7S looks different than on last year's U7Q, we didn't notice significant changes in the sound. Again, it's a 2.1 system with a total power of 40 W that sounds quite pleasant for this class of TV. The extra bass driver gives the sound a bit more weight, so overall it doesn't sound as flat as basic stereo designs. That said, it's not deep, powerful bass that would replace a separate subwoofer. For everyday viewing this setup is more than sufficient, though you may feel it falls short for action movies and music. A plus is support for Dolby Atmos and DTS formats. It's worth noting that on the built-in speakers Atmos works with Dolby Digital Plus tracks; in our test it did not work with the Dolby TrueHD-based version.
