The best Philips TVs of 2024 – these models are worth buying before they disappear from the shelves!

Calendar 5/22/2025

Philips with its models for 2024 has gone a bit against the grain. Instead of sticking with the popular Google TV, the company decided to focus on its own system – Titan OS. The change affected most new models and… well, not everyone will like it. The system is simpler and works quickly, but one must take into account that not all applications available before will be found here. As if that weren't enough, Philips still has its own style – a bit different naming, several versions of the same model depending on the store or region… It can be easy to get lost in all of this. That’s why we prepared this ranking – to make the choice easier. We focused on models that we believe just make sense. And those worth paying attention to!

🏆 Best Philips TV 2024

🏆 Best OLED TV with Ambilight

The Philips OLED909 is a model that can easily be placed next to televisions like the LG G4 or Panasonic Z95A – and not just because of the price. All three utilize the same OLED MLA technology, which involves a matrix with micro-lenses, significantly increasing brightness and making HDR effects look truly impressive. Additionally, it features excellent black levels, which are a hallmark of any good OLED, as well as support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, so in terms of picture quality, it is definitely one of the best models of 2024.

However, it must be said outright – this is not a cheap television. The Philips OLED909 is noticeably more expensive than the LG G4, which may be a deciding factor for many people. On the other hand, if someone values the Google TV system (with access to practically every possible application), better built-in sound (as it features a quite solid soundbar at the bottom of the housing), and of course Ambilight, which makes a difference in the evening – then the OLED909 could be a very strong candidate. Especially for those looking for an absolutely top-tier television.

🏆Best Philips OLED in terms of value for money

🏆Best Philips TV for gaming

The Philips OLED809 (or 819 – depending on where you buy it) is a really solid OLED that can deliver excellent image quality. We have deep blacks, very good color reproduction after calibration, and a great HDR effect, thanks to support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The television also performs excellently in gaming – with a 144 Hz panel, a full set of HDMI 2.1 ports, low input lag, and full VRR support, you can easily connect a console and get the most out of it. Day-to-day, the OLED809 runs on Google TV, which is fast, intuitive, and offers access to practically every needed app. If someone has previously used Android on a TV, they will find it easy to navigate here. And of course, Ambilight, which still works wonders – in the evening, it adds atmosphere and really enhances the viewing experience for movies and series.

On the other hand – it must be said honestly that this is not the most cost-effective OLED on the market. At a similar price, you can find models like Samsung's S90D with a QD-OLED panel or LG's C series, which offers very similar parameters at a lower price. But if Ambilight is a must-have for someone, and the Google TV system simply "has to be," then the OLED809 will calmly meet those requirements. And although the additional cost compared to competitors may sting, for many people, this specific set of features and experiences will simply be worth it.

Best Philips Mid-Range TV

🏆 Best mid-range Philips TV

🏆 Best Philips TV for sports

The One series from Philips has enjoyed great popularity for several years and it's still holding up well in 2024. This is a mid-range television that simply works well in many applications – especially if you care about smooth images and wide viewing angles. Philips has used a 120 Hz panel here, making the TV excellent for watching sports and dynamic content. We also have an IPS panel, which means that whether you sit directly in front or a little to the side, the image doesn't lose contrast or colors. This model also performs well as a gaming TV. It has HDMI 2.1 ports, a very decent input lag, and support for basic gaming features. It’s downright phenomenal for consoles like the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. And as is typical with Philips – Ambilight continues to enhance the experience, especially during evening gaming or viewing. Oh, and

Of course, this isn't a television without flaws. The IPS panel and lack of local dimming mean that blacks won't be as deep as in other models, which you may notice, especially in the evening. The Titan OS system also has its limitations – it’s fast, but the number of available apps is still less than in Google TV or Android TV. Nevertheless, in our opinion, it’s a better choice than the more expensive MiniLED from the Xtra series. There, despite better technical specifications, the management of backlighting zones is average enough that the effects may disappoint. The One series is more predictable and safe – and that’s precisely why it makes it into our ranking as the best mid-range Philips.

Best Cheap Philips TV

Philips PML8709

Philips PML8709 – See our review/test – click on the picture.

🏆 Best Budget Philips TV

Philips PML8709 is one of the most surprising models that the company released in 2024. On one hand, we have MiniLED with a VA panel (65") – which provides solid black levels, noticeably better than in popular models like The One or The Xtra. On the other hand… it is one of the few LCD TVs in Philips' lineup that does not run on Titan OS, but rather on a full-fledged Google TV system. And that’s what makes it somewhat of a "holy grail" in Philips' LCD portfolio – we have more apps and a more familiar interface. But that’s not the end of the surprises. The biggest shock is the lack of Ambilight. Yes, you read that right – Philips released a TV without its most characteristic feature. It’s hard to say why – maybe it was about cutting costs, or perhaps positioning it in a different target group. In any case, if someone was counting on colorful lights on the wall, unfortunately – you won’t find them in this model.

On the other hand, the PML8709 often comes with really attractive promotions. The 55-inch model can cost as much as a classic LCD on Titan, making it hard to overlook. So if you don’t care about Ambilight, but are looking for an affordable MiniLED with good black levels and the Google TV system – then the PML8709 could be a very reasonable choice.

Which Philips TV to choose?

As you can see, in Philips's offer in 2024, there is indeed a lot to choose from. From top OLEDs with an MLA panel and Ambilight, to mid-range models, down to budget-friendly designs without lights on the back of the TV, but with great black levels and Google TV system. Of course – none of these TVs are perfect (because which one is?), but we have tried to select models that simply make sense. Whether for gaming, watching movies, or everyday viewing in the living room.

We hope that this ranking will make your choice easier and help you avoid accidentally purchasing "just any TV with Ambilight." And if you have your own picks or have come across promotions that are worth sharing with others – feel free to let us know in the comments or messages.
