HDR10+ is increasingly entering the world of gaming. After updates for F1 25 and Cyberpunk 2077, two more major productions – Borderlands 4 and Hell is Us – will officially receive support for HDR10+ Gaming. A format that until recently was mainly associated with movies and TV shows is now beginning to establish its position in video games.
Dolby Vision vs HDR10+ – the battle for gaming
Although Dolby Vision still has the advantage and enjoys broader support, with the upcoming Dolby Vision 2 expected to bring new optimizations for gamers, HDR10+ is consistently expanding its portfolio. The development of HDR10+ is backed by the HDR10+ Alliance, supported by brands such as Amazon, Apple, Disney+, Netflix, and Samsung. It is during the IFA 2025 in Berlin that the consortium is set to showcase the latest advancements in integrating HDR10+ with gaming.
The list of games is growing
The first titles that introduced HDR10+ were:
The First Descendant
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Cyberpunk 2077
Later, they were joined by: Red Dead Redemption 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Call of Duty: Warzone 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
In July 2025, Cyberpunk 2077 received update 2.3, which introduced support for HDR10+ Gaming on Intel graphics cards. This is an important step, as HDR10+ Gaming is not just a regular implementation of HDR – it is a special extension designed for gamers. The format has been optimized for high frames per second, VRR, lower latency, and automatic image calibration.
Bill Mandel from HDR10+ Technologies emphasizes: “HDR10+ Gaming provides real benefits. Players get automatically optimized visuals, and developers have the assurance that HDR looks exactly as they intended. It’s plug-and-play HDR with precise contrast, brightness, and colors on all supported devices.”
F1 25, Borderlands 4, and other releases
The HDR10+ update has already been received by EA Sports F1 25, which now supports the format on Nvidia GPUs. Soon, Hell is Us from Nacon and Rogue Factor, as well as Borderlands 4 from 2K and Gearbox Software, will join the list of games with HDR10+ Gaming.
Expansion of HDR10+ Technology
According to alliance data, HDR10+ is already operational in over 13,000 models of televisions, monitors, and players, with participation from over 160 companies. Interestingly, PlayStation and Xbox still do not support HDR10+, which limits the development of this technology on consoles.
Support for HDR10+ Gaming was added to Unreal Engine 5.2.1 and newer versions in October 2023, making implementation easier in new productions.
In the TV market, HDR10+ is supported by Samsung, TCL, Hisense, Panasonic, and Philips, while LG and Sony have stuck with the basic HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
