Until recently, Samsung TV users had to accept certain limitations when it came to streaming content from their phones. The Korean giant promoted its own standards, but market pressure and consumer expectations led to a long-awaited breakthrough. Samsung officially announced the integration of Google Cast technology (formerly known as Chromecast) in its TIZEN Smart TV receivers. This is a historic step that builds a bridge between the Tizen system and the massive Google ecosystem.
Google Cast alongside Smart View and AirPlay
So far, Samsung has based its wireless communication strategy on two pillars. Android smartphone users were encouraged (or rather forced) to use the proprietary solution Smart View, which, while functional, was mainly limited to full screen mirroring or working with selected applications within the Samsung ecosystem. On the other hand, iPhone and iPad owners could use the AirPlay technology. The introduction of Google Cast opens up a new opportunity here or expands the functionality of Smart View. This feature will be natively integrated into the system, meaning that users no longer need to purchase external Chromecast devices to sync their television with the entire Google ecosystem (e.g., Google Home).
What do we gain from Google Cast?
Unlike traditional screen mirroring (Smart View), Google Cast offers unique benefits:
Multitasking: You can send a movie from the app to the TV and continue using your phone (sending texts, browsing social media) without interrupting playback.
Phone battery saving: After initiating the stream, the TV itself pulls the data stream from the cloud, and the phone serves only as a remote.
Content queuing: The ability to create shared playlists by multiple users simultaneously.
Smart Home: Google Cast should open the door to pairing the Tizen TV with the proprietary Google Home solution.
Which models will receive the update?
Thanks to Samsung's policy of 7 years of support, we can expect this feature to be available even for older devices.
2026 Models: They will have Google Cast as a factory feature.
2025 and 2024 Models: They will receive support through a firmware update to version v2115 or newer.
2023 Models and earlier: While the 2023 models are receiving system updates due to their 7-year warranties, support for Google Cast has not yet been officially confirmed for them.
