Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Generation
Xiaomi has quietly launched the third generation of its popular TV Box S player. The device still operates on the Google TV system, but this time it has received several much-needed improvements that could make it an interesting alternative to the offerings from Google and other manufacturers.
More memory, but no changes to RAM
The biggest change is the tripling of the built-in memory – from 8 GB to as much as 32 GB. This is a significant step forward, especially in the context of the increasing number of applications and games available in the Google Play store. It is worth noting that the new Google guidelines require devices with Google TV to have at least 16 GB of memory – Xiaomi meets this requirement with ease.
Unfortunately, the RAM has remained unchanged and still amounts to just 2 GB?! When talking about devices in 2025, it is hard to overlook this. By comparison, the Google TV streamer offers 4 GB of RAM. We can only hope that Xiaomi will release more versions of this device with a larger amount of system memory.
New processor and support for Wi-Fi 6
Xiaomi has not officially revealed which exact chip powers the new version of the device, but it is known that it offers a CPU that is 25% faster and a GPU performance that is 130% better compared to its predecessor. (According to leaks from flatpanelsHD, it is a chip named Amlogic S905X5M). In practice, this should translate into faster application launches, smoother interface performance, and better image quality in games or during streaming. However, we still emphasize that 2GB of RAM may be a bottleneck for the device. The new model also features support for Wi-Fi 6 – this is good news for users with faster internet and modern routers. Unfortunately, the classic 3.5 mm audio jack has been omitted, which may be a disappointment for those using wired speakers.
Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and 4K – no compromises
The new version still supports Dolby Vision and the increasingly popular HDR10+. It also includes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound. The maximum resolution via HDMI is 4K at 60 fps – exactly what top devices like Apple TV 4K or Nvidia Shield TV offer.
Thanks to its greater memory and more powerful processor, the ChooseTV Box 3rd generation could become a real alternative to other devices with Google TV. We only hope that the presence of just 2GB of system memory will not hinder the device in any way. We are still waiting for the price and release date – but if Xiaomi maintains a competitive pricing strategy, it could make quite an impact on the market. It's no coincidence that the previous model was one of the most popular streaming devices on the market.
