“Spider-Noir” is an American superhero series set in the aesthetic of film noir, created by Oren Uziel for the MGM+ platform. The production is based on Marvel comics and focuses on a version of the hero known as Spider-Man Noir. At the centre of the story is an ageing private detective who attempts to survive in the brutal New York of the 1930s while confronting his own past as the city's former sole “superhero”. The series is set to explore the fall of a legend, personal reckonings, and a world in which justice is more often a myth than a tangible force.
Debut this year?
The premiere of "Spider-Noir" is scheduled for this year on Amazon Prime Video, so the platform is gradually starting to build interest. The first official stills from the series have surfaced online and they clearly showcase the ambitions of the project. The images suggest a distinctly outlined style, based on a heavy atmosphere and refined aesthetics. The creators evidently want to give the production a character that will allow it to stand out amidst the repetitive, flashy but often homogeneous stories about superheroes.
One of the more interesting ideas is the way the series is presented. The creators have prepared two versions of the image – a classic black-and-white and a colour one. The same material viewed in two versions provides completely different feelings. One features a raw, cinematic atmosphere from decades ago, while the other has a more contemporary energy. This is a detail that can strongly influence the reception of the entire production.
