In 2025, high-end televisions can amaze with their picture and sound... but they can just as effectively empty your wallet. It's no surprise then that there is increasing interest in "mid-range" models that are entering stores with technologies that were only recently reserved for flagship devices. And this is precisely the trend that Sharp is targeting with its new Aquos Mini-LED JP7000 series.
The equipment will debut at the beginning of next month in Europe and the USA, and Sharp promises "a new dimension of affordable picture and sound quality". Prices have not yet been disclosed, but the manufacturer suggests they will be enticing. We will have four sizes to choose from: 50”, 55”, 65” and 75” – everything you need for the living room.
Mini-LED + Quantum Dot for 'normal' prices
The market for cheap Mini-LEDs is just starting to take off. In China, the Dreame V3000 costs from 3999 yuan (~428£), which is already a great price for such technology. It's no wonder that many people are waiting for the JP7000 – because Sharp combines here:
Mini-LED (more precise dimming zones, higher contrast)
Quantum Dots (more natural, richer colours)
Dolby Vision and HDR10
Aquos Smooth Motion for smoother 4K
In practice, this means: contrast, colours, and HDR that a regular LCD cannot provide.
But there's one downside: 60 Hz
The JP7000 offers a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which is a bit disappointing considering the rising standard of 120 Hz in the mid-range.
For movies – OK.
For sports – acceptable.
For gamers – not really suitable.
If someone is looking for an affordable Mini-LED specifically for gaming, it's better to look at something like the Hisense U7N or Philips MLED910, which cost below a thousand pounds in the UK. Nevertheless – not much has been sacrificed in the JP7000 aside from the higher refresh rate.
Audio from Harman Kardon and Google TV on board
Sharp adds a solid audio set:
2×12 W
tuning Harman Kardon
Dolby Atmos
Additionally, at the back we have:
2× HDMI (one with eARC)
USB
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Software? Google TV, the best you can get in a smart TV today – fast, comprehensive, with access to all the major platforms and thousands of apps.
Almost borderless design
The JP7000 looks decidedly modern. Sharp has opted for:
ultra-thin bezels
a minimalist aluminium central stand
a style of “image suspended in mid-air”
It's the type of television that looks more expensive than its price point suggests.
Premiere is just around the corner – perfectly timed for Christmas
Sharp confirms that Aquos Mini-LED JP7000 will hit stores early next month. Will it be a holiday hit? If the price is indeed "affordable," and the specs maintain the quality promised on paper – there’s a good chance.
Who is this TV for? For those wanting Mini-LED without paying a few thousand extra, for viewers of movies and series in HDR, for those who want good picture quality, Google TV, and nice design. However, it is not for demanding gamers (60 Hz).
If "a good but not bank-breaking TV for Christmas" is on your wish list, then Sharp JP7000 is definitely worth keeping on your radar.
