Specific information has emerged online about the first Philips televisions prepared for 2026. We're talking about the series OLED901, which at this moment is generating quite a lot of interest, as the listings on Display Specifications only feature two relatively small sizes: 42 and 48 inches. Despite the smaller diagonals, the technical specifications suggest that these are not budget models, but rather equipment for demanding users and gamers.
New processor and "brain" from MediaTek
The biggest change is the switch to a new generation image processor – Philips P5 Perfect Picture Engine Gen 9. It uses newer AI algorithms (including Adaptive Intelligence) that are designed to better manage colours and contrast depending on what we are watching. All of this is powered by the MediaTek Pentonic 1000 chip, supported by 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of space for apps. The entire system runs on the latest Google TV (Android 14).
What's the deal with picture and gaming?
Philips hasn't skimped on the panel. Both models feature OLED panels from LG Display similar to those in the "C" series, which offer:
Peak brightness around 1000 nits.
Native refresh rate of 120 Hz, which can be "stretched" to 144 Hz thanks to VRR.
Upgraded Game Bar 2.0 with new features, like colour settings assistant or better minimap zoom.
Ambilight and Powerful Sound
Televisions are traditionally equipped with the Ambilight 3 system. When it comes to audio, there's a noticeable difference between the sizes:
48-inch Version: 4.1 system with a power of 70 W.
42-inch Version: 2.1 system with a power of 50 W.
In both models, the low frequencies are handled by a built-in SOUNDBAR and Subwoofer at the back of the casing, which should provide a solid effect without the need to purchase external audio equipment, considering the small screen sizes. Available data indicates that the OLED901 has two HDMI 2.1 ports as well as two older HDMI 2.0 ports. Which is, to be honest, strange given that Philips will be using the new MediaTek chip.
How much does the OLED901 cost?
As for the prices, Philips hasn't confirmed them yet, but one can refer to the current models. The predecessor (OLED810) in the 42-inch size currently costs around 1100–1200 euros, so the new 901 series will likely launch from a similar price point.
