Nowy handheld Anbernic RG Vita Pro pozwoli uruchomić gry z PlayStation 2 w kieszonkowym urządzeniu.

New handheld for retro fans

Anbernic has announced a new portable console RG Vita Pro, which may interest fans of retro games and emulation. The device is set to provide enough performance to run games from consoles like PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Vita, while also maintaining a compact size that fits in your pocket. The manufacturer has already revealed some initial video materials and specifications for the device.

The heart of the console is said to be an octa-core Rockchip RK3576 processor, which appears for the first time in a retro device. The chip is manufactured using 8 nm technology and features four powerful Cortex-A72 cores and four energy-efficient Cortex-A53 cores. It has a 5.5-inch IPS display with Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Power is supplied by a 5000 mAh battery that supports 18 W fast charging.

Android and Linux in one device

One of the biggest highlights of the Pro model is its support for two operating systems. The console will allow you to run both Android 14 and a 64-bit Linux distribution. According to unofficial information, the software is being developed in collaboration with the creators of the popular GammaOS, which is well-known in the retro handheld community. This solution could significantly improve the performance and stability of emulators.

The manufacturer promises that the device will handle emulating many platforms. Promotional materials have shown gameplay from PlayStation 2 games such as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The handheld is also expected to support games from other platforms, including Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation Portable, and Sega Dreamcast. Thanks to the Android system, it will also be possible to run modern mobile games.

The console is equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0, allowing for the connection of wireless controllers or streaming games from a computer. The device also features a USB-C port with DisplayPort support and a separate HDMI connection, enabling it to be connected directly to a monitor or television and used like a traditional console. The Anbernic RG Vita Pro is set to be released in two colour variations – black and white. The manufacturer announces that the device will debut soon, probably still in March. However, the price of the equipment has not yet been disclosed.

The new handheld from Anbernic might be one of the more interesting offerings for fans of emulation. The combination of a powerful processor, Android 14 and Linux, along with support for many classic consoles, means that RG Vita Pro could become a very versatile device for playing retro titles.
