Netflix dives into the darkness: A series about "The Devil from Piotrków" is being created – at the helm is the creator of The Great Water!

Poland's most chilling killer. Netflix’s Blizna tells the story of Trynkiewicz, with the vibe of Rojst and Wielka Woda’s director.

There’s something unsettling about the fact that a story that has forever marked Polish society is returning today as a series. But Netflix has decided to tackle an exceptionally difficult subject — Blizna is being created, a tale about Mariusz Trynkiewicz, known as the "Satan from Piotrków." The direction is in the hands of Kasper Bajon, the creator of Wielka woda and Projekt UFO, who — if his previous projects are anything to go by — can convey the weight of dramatic events without cheap shocks.

Everyone in Poland has heard of Trynkiewicz. He was a PE teacher, quiet, unremarkable, yet capable of acts that defy any scale of cruelty. In 1988, he brutally murdered four boys. He was sentenced to death, but after changes in Polish law, his sentence was commuted to 25 years in prison. When he was released, he was placed in a facility in Gostynin as someone who posed a threat to society. This story still evokes horror — also because it cannot be explained in a straightforward manner.

The series will be filmed in locations including Łódź and Pabianice — places that visually fit the atmosphere of the late PRL, when these events took place. Filming is already underway, and the premiere is planned for 2026. Netflix is opting for a slow but precise pace – it’s not about sensationalism, but something deeper: an attempt to understand how something so terrible could happen and what it says about us as a society.

Blizna could be one of those series that not only tells a story but stays with the viewer long after the last episode.
