LG Magnit Active Micro LED – gigantic TV hits the USA. MicroLED is entering a whole new level

Calendar 12/12/2025

LG Magnit Active Micro LED launches in the U.S. – a massive 136-inch display with Active Matrix technology, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 144 Hz refresh rate. We explain how MicroLED outperforms OLED and why this TV is reserved for the absolute elite.

LG Electronics is preparing to launch one of the most spectacular televisions ever to hit the market. After its debut in South Korea in October, LG Magnit Active Micro LED will be available in the American market by January. This is an absolutely uncompromising design – created for private home cinemas, luxury residences, and clients for whom size and price are not a major concern.

136 inches and modular construction

The new Magnit is a true giant – 136 inches diagonal, over 3 metres wide and around 1.7 metres high. The television has a modular design and consists of four 68-inch cabinets, which house smaller Micro LED modules with a resolution of 480 x 540 pixels and pixel pitch 0.78 mm. LG also boasts an improved design that makes the joins between the panels nearly invisible.

Active Matrix – key innovation

The biggest change compared to previous Magnit models is the use of Active Matrix technology. This is the first Micro LED LG to utilise such a solution. Unlike passive systems, where control occurs row by row or column by column, Active Matrix allows you to control each pixel independently. The result? Significantly better image precision, higher realism in scenes, and even greater control over brightness and contrast. LG claims a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, which – at least on paper – places the Magnit Active Micro LED at the absolute forefront of the market.

MicroLED better than OLED

MicroLED has long been regarded as a technology that surpasses OLED. The pixels are self-emissive, do not use organic materials, do not degrade, and can achieve significantly higher brightness. This means deeper blacks, immense contrast, and no risk of burn-in. The new Magnit has also received the TÜV Rheinland Colour Consistency Wide Viewing certification, confirming consistent colours and contrast even at very wide viewing angles – which is hugely important with 136 inches.

α9 AI Processor Gen 6 and 144 Hz

The heart of the television is the α9 AI Processor 6th generation, the most powerful chipset from LG. The processor analyses the image in real-time, recognising faces, objects, backgrounds, and text, optimising them individually, reducing noise, and enhancing sharpness scene by scene. Included are:

  • Dolby Vision HDR

  • refresh rate up to 144 Hz

  • next-gen gaming features

  • HDMI with eARC

The sound is generated by a built-in 4.2 system with 100 W power, with speakers placed on either side of the screen – though in this product class, no one is likely to go without external audio.

Price? Astronomical

LG hasn't disclosed an official price – neither in the USA nor in South Korea. According to industry leaks and reports cited by Google Gemini, the cost may exceed 250,000 dollars. This effectively limits the pool of potential buyers to the absolute elite. A more “down-to-earth” option is the anticipated smaller version of Magnit Active Micro LED, planned for next year – although even that is unlikely to make it to the showrooms of average consumers.

Launch at CES 2026

Sales in the USA are set to begin on 6 January, alongside the presentation of the television at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The LG Magnit Active Micro LED is a show of strength and a technological manifesto – a product that sets the direction for market development more than it realistically competes for mass sales. One thing is for sure – this is what the future of televisions looks like, even if today only a few can afford it.
