Apple has officially unveiled a refreshed version of its most expensive headset. The new Apple Vision Pro (2025) features a M5 chip, a new Dual Knit Band, improved image quality, and a longer battery life.
No global launch and the same price
Although the device has received a number of upgrades, the price remains unchanged – 3500 USD before tax. There is still no information on global availability. The launch will take place on 22 October in selected countries: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, UAE, the United Kingdom, and the USA. South Korea and Taiwan are next in line.
M5 chip and 120 Hz display
The new M5 chip replaces the existing M2 and brings a significant performance boost – up to 50% higher AI power, improved CPU and GPU, and hardware ray tracing. Apple emphasises that the chip also enables rendering of 10% more pixels on micro-OLED displays. We’re still talking about over 4K per eye (23 million pixels in total), but now with refresh rates up to 120 Hz. This remains the best image quality available among headsets, definitely surpassing the Meta Quest and Pico designs, which still rely on LCD.
Vision Pro can simulate a cinema, an IMAX screen, or huge virtual monitors for work, as well as play content in 2D, 3D, and “immersive” format.
Dual Knit Band and 3 hours of battery life
The new Dual Knit Band aims to improve comfort with its fairly robust design. The lower strap is equipped with elastic ribs with tungsten inserts, which act as a counterbalance. The new strap is available in three sizes (S/M/L) and can also be purchased separately to use with the previous model.
The external battery now provides up to 3 hours of operation, which is a noticeable improvement over the first version.
visionOS 26, new app and no Netflix
The headset debuts with the visionOS 26 system, introducing immersive experiences from documentaries, sports, and music. Soon, the Apple Vision Pro app for iPad will appear, allowing users to control the headset and download games remotely.
Apple boasts a library of over a million apps, although only about 3000 were created specifically for visionOS. There is still a lack of Netflix and YouTube, but Disney+ and HBO Max offer special environments (“Star Wars”, “Hogwarts”), where you can watch films, for example, “on the moon”. Next year, the first VR sports broadcasts will debut, and the Apple TV app already has over 300 3D films available.
Games, work, and the future of entertainment
Vision Pro supports games in 4K HDR and spatial audio, although most of them still run on a virtual screen. A new feature is the support for PlayStation VR2 controllers. The headset can also mirror the Mac screen, and in work settings, users can spread multiple virtual monitors around themselves. FlatpanelsHD described the experience with Vision Pro as a “video revolution”, providing insight into the future of cinema, gaming, and work in 3D spaces.
