Our verdict

The TCL V6C is a television whose value lies primarily in three elements: the Google TV system, several features useful for gamers, and a very low price. It is the Google TV that is its greatest asset – it provides access to a vast library of applications, from the most popular streaming services to lesser-known programs, and also allows the use of AirPlay, screen mirroring, and voice search. For many users, this system alone may be a sufficient reason to consider a purchase. In addition, there are simple yet practical features for gamers, such as ALLM mode, low input lag, and a Game Bar with parameter previews, which make occasional gaming on a console more convenient. The third argument, and perhaps the most important, is the price – in this class, it's hard to find another model with Google TV that offers such broad access to smart features. However, when we move on to image quality, it becomes evident just how many compromises are involved. The V6C is a very dim television. The colors remain poor, and in more demanding scenes, the image can appear flattened and lacking in detail. The contrast provided by the VA panel can be considered decent, but it comes at the expense of weak viewing angles. Additionally, there's motion blur in dynamic sports scenes, as well as an unnatural upscaling effect that, instead of enhancing details, often artificially sharpens them. So who is this model for? The V6C is a television that works well as a simple device for everyday TV watching or YouTube, and its greatest strength is the operating system and low price. However, if we are looking for cheap cinematic experiences or comfortable gaming in modern titles, this model will quickly reveal its limitations. Therefore, when purchasing it, one must clearly understand what they are choosing – it is a television for simple tasks, not a device intended to impress with picture quality.

The Samsung S99H is probably the best OLED TV we’ve tested so far, and certainly the best Samsung OLED in years. In terms of picture quality it’s really hard to find a weak point. Black levels are perfect, as you’d expect from an OLED panel, and HDR performance impresses with brightness and color saturation. Using a QD-OLED panel delivers an image that in many scenes looks almost reference-grade. Practically every parameter related to display quality is excellent. It’s also hard to deny that the S99H is simply a pleasure to use day to day. Tizen runs quickly, has access to all the major apps, and is covered by seven years of update support. On top of that are brilliant gaming features, which translated into one of the highest scores in that category on our site. The S99H will therefore perform well in virtually any situation — whether we’re watching movies in the evening, watching regular TV in a bright living room, or spending several hours on a console.

So is it a perfect TV? Not entirely. The most controversial aspect is, of course, the design. The unique look with a wide bezel means this TV will either be loved immediately or completely rejected, and that’s purely subjective. We can, however, assess the equipment, and in that respect Samsung left something to be desired. In a model designed primarily for wall mounting there’s no dedicated wall bracket, nor a One Connect module. Samsung does allow you to buy its wireless version, the Wireless One Connect, but for a product at this price point both items should, in our opinion, be included.

These aren’t, however, flaws that should rule out this model. The Samsung S99H stands above all on its picture, and it is simply phenomenal. If you like the way it looks and are after the best possible TV, it’s hard to find a better choice today. Right now the Samsung S99H is the frontrunner for best TV of 2026.

Halo effect and black detail visibility:

Check the visibility of bright lights on a dark background. Mini-LEDs often struggle with this. The photo does not compare black levels – that’s what the video below is for.

The video accurately shows differences in contrast and black levels between TVs, as well as potential issues: halo around bright objects or Mini-LED zone operation visible as brightness jumps.

TCK V6C utilizes a VA matrix, which is a solution that is considered a reasonable choice in budget televisions. This type of panel offers high contrast and can provide enjoyable experiences, especially during evening movie screenings. Of course, in this price range, it's hard to expect local dimming – this technology simply isn’t present here. The effect is that black won't be as deep and inky as in more expensive models, and at times it may resemble a shade of navy blue. Fortunately, this can be easily circumvented – just turn on a soft light behind the television or place a small lamp in the corner of the room, so that the eye can "trick" itself and the blacks look much better. For equipment in this range, the contrast can therefore be considered decent and sufficient for everyday viewing.

As befits an OLED TV, the Samsung S99H delivers perfect black and virtually infinite contrast. Each pixel can turn off independently, so bright elements don’t cause any blooming and blacks remain black even in the most challenging scenes. The image is therefore very dimensional and looks great in movies, TV shows, and games. Compared with Mini LED LCD TVs, the advantage is especially noticeable in dark shots with small bright details. Subtitles, stars, headlights, and tiny light sources retain full clarity and don’t blend into the background. There’s also none of the halo typical of local dimming nor the dimming of bright elements just to preserve deep blacks. Importantly, in this regard it doesn’t matter whether the panel is QD-OLED or Tandem WOLED. In both cases we can count on the same basic benefits of organic technology: perfect control of every pixel and excellent contrast regardless of the scene.

When it comes to HDR, the TCK V6C clearly shows that it is not its strong suit. Peak brightness around 200 nits makes it difficult to talk about true HDR effects – the image simply remains too dark to extract details in bright scenes or convey the appropriate dynamics. Although the TV formally supports many HDR formats, in practice it is not adapted for such demanding content. The lack of additional coatings that enhance colors, such as QLED or PFS LED, further limits the appeal of the image – in more spectacular productions, colors may seem washed out compared to more expensive models. Therefore, the V6C will primarily serve as a television for everyday TV, YouTube, or SDR materials, rather than as equipment for high-quality cinematic experiences.

When it comes to brightness alone, the S99H is an astronomically bright TV. Its peak brightness in movie scenes can exceed 2800 nits! Regardless of the scene, you can count on powerful HDR effects that practically blind you, and that's exactly what we expect from a top-tier screen. It's inherent to OLED panels that in very bright, full-screen shots they won't sustain as high a brightness as they do with small highlights, but the results are still excellent. In a bright scene from the film The Meg, the sun still exceeded 2200 nits. That means the S99H was able to maintain higher brightness than most Mini LED screens on the market. In terms of brightness, the S99H is currently the best OLED TV we've tested.

Color gamut coverage

The S99H also handles color exceptionally well, which is a direct result of the QD-OLED panel used here. Regardless of the test scenario, whether synthetic test patterns or measurements with film material in the background, the results stayed at a very high level. The S99H easily covers almost 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut, and for the most demanding color space it reaches nearly 90% of BT.2020. That's top-tier performance on the market. These results match what we saw in the new SQD-Mini-LED screens, and in real movie scenes they even outperform RGB Mini LED displays.

We started the color reproduction tests with the Filmmaker mode, which in theory should be the best choice right after taking the television out of the box. It certainly performs better than the Eco or Dynamic modes, which heavily interfere with the image and spoil its natural character. As you can see in the charts, the factory tuning of the V6C is not ideal, although it’s not a disaster either. The biggest problem turned out to be a lack of red – the television clearly "cools" the image, which is particularly noticeable on human faces, giving a "corpse skin" effect. This issue was the most bothersome in daily viewing. Looking at the color palette in HDR content, the deficiencies in red are also noticeable, and their source is the relatively narrow coverage of the color space. Of course, every television can be calibrated, so we decided to check how the V6C would perform after such an adjustment.

Samsung offers a whole host of picture modes and features, but as usual we recommend choosing Filmmaker Mode, especially if you want the most faithful rendering of the creators' intent. Out of the box the TV is tuned very well, though it has minor shortcomings. This mainly concerns a slight drift in white balance in SDR content and a slightly low gamma. As a result, in a darker room the image can be a bit too bright relative to the reference gamma of 2.4, which is the standard for watching films with the lights off. These are of course small issues, since overall color reproduction remains very good and the errors in ColorChecker measurements are small. However, we know that from a screen of the S99H's class you can and should expect even more, so we had it professionally calibrated.

My dear friends – we haven't had such a difficult "calibration battle" in years. The V6C turned out to be one of the most stubborn TVs we've dealt with in the editorial office. The calibration trials alone took us several working hours and required a lot of patience. We finally managed to slightly warm up the skin tones, which made the faces stop looking like they were straight out of a horror film, a flaw in the factory settings. Unfortunately, that's not the end of it – the TV reacted to our adjustments in white balance in a completely unpredictable way. Where we expected image stabilization in a given area, new errors appeared, and the Color Checker measurements showed deviations that couldn't be rationally explained. It's hard to say whether the software or the construction itself was to blame, but one thing is certain – the V6C offered exceptionally strong resistance. In the end, the calibration brought improvement, especially in SDR content, where the image became more pleasant and natural. However, it must be clearly stated that the design limitations remained. The TV still flattens the image in HDR material and has significant deficiencies in color reproduction. This is equipment rather intended for everyday TV watching or SDR materials than for cinematic screenings in the highest quality.

After professional calibration, FILMMAKER mode looks virtually perfect. Because Samsung offers a rich set of advanced calibration features, we were able to tune the colors to an almost perfect level. Most importantly, we were able to even out the white balance and the gamma curve, which resulted in noticeably better contrast and a more natural image dimensionality. With a profile prepared like this, there's really nothing to nitpick or call a flaw. After calibration, the S99H is capable of delivering an essentially reference-quality image.

When it comes to the smoothness of tonal transitions, in everyday viewing it doesn't look too bad. In most scenes, the image appears smooth, and the colors blend without noticeable interruptions. You can comfortably watch movies or series without worrying about glaring artifacts. The problem begins only in more extreme moments – in very bright or exceptionally dark scenes, V6C shows its limitations. You can then see subtle "banding" of colors, meaning a lack of perfectly smooth transitions. Fortunately, these situations are rather sporadic.

The smoothness of tonal transitions on the Samsung S99H looks very good. It performs best in bright scenes, where successive shades blend very smoothly with no visible banding. It's also good in darker scenes, though you can occasionally spot minor imperfections. In everyday viewing they are practically unnoticeable. It's worth adding that this is one of the strengths of QD-OLED panels. Compared with WOLED panels, they handle near-black transitions much better, while competing panels from LG Display more often exhibit posterization and uneven tone gradation.

When it comes to upscaling, the V6C does not bring anything groundbreaking. Lower quality content is heavily sharpened, making the image look very unnatural, sometimes even artificially. This can be partially mitigated by lowering the sharpness level in the settings, but the effect is not spectacular. The image still remains far from ideal. The digital processing itself performs better. The function responsible for smoothing tonal transitions works quite effectively, especially at the medium setting, where the image indeed appears smoother. Unfortunately, its operation is quite aggressive – it heavily interferes with the overall scene, causing the actors in the foreground to start looking like characters from super smooth telenovelas. Therefore, we would not recommend using this option if natural reception of the image is important to us.

The proprietary Samsung NQ4 Gen3 processor handles upscaling and digital image processing. It does a very good job scaling lower-resolution material to 4K. The picture is sharp but doesn't look artificial or overly sharpened. The only fairly specific drawback appears with very old footage shot at 480p or lower. In those cases the TV can slightly crop the edges of the image.

The processor also copes quite well with artifacts visible in low-bitrate material, for example heavily compressed YouTube videos. The noise reduction feature effectively smooths the image and reduces posterization, but it works rather aggressively. It can remove not only unwanted artifacts but also some fine details and even natural film grain. We, wanting to preserve maximum fidelity to the source material, chose not to use it. However, if someone values a clean, as-smooth-as-possible image over keeping every detail, it can be useful.

Motion smoothing and motion fluidity is an area where the V6C quickly reveals its limitations. It is a 60 Hz TV, so it was hard to expect miracles here. In dynamic sports scenes, the picture comes off rather average. This is most noticeable in darker scenes, where clear smears and blurry "halos" trail behind moving objects, which can be quite distracting. This is definitely a weaker point of this model. Fortunately, there is also a small plus. The V6C is equipped with motion interpolation, which works while watching movies. Thanks to it, productions recorded at 24 frames per second, meaning practically all cinematic titles as well as series, can look smoother than they were actually recorded. Importantly, the intensity of the effect can be adjusted to personal preferences – from slight smoothing to full "soap opera effect."

Another major advantage of OLED panels is excellent motion reproduction. Thanks to the pixels' near instant response time, the Samsung S99H practically produces no smearing. Fast-moving objects don't show noticeable halos or trailing artifacts, so the TV performs very well for both watching sports and gaming. One quirk of OLED screens compared with LCDs is how they render low frame rate material. With very slow camera movement the image can appear noticeably more stuttery. This can be quite effectively mitigated using a frame interpolation system. Samsung lets you adjust judder reduction and blur reduction separately, making it easy to find a compromise between smoother motion and preserving the cinematic character of the content.

Although the V6C is not a television designed with avid gamers in mind, TCL has included a few features that may appeal to more casual users. There is no 120 Hz panel or HDMI 2.1 ports, but there is an ALLM mode that automatically switches the TV to low-latency mode. Additionally, there is a quite practical Game Bar – a simple panel that allows you to view basic parameters, change the picture mode, or even enable a virtual crosshair on the screen. An interesting feature is also the support for Dolby Vision Gaming, intended for Xbox Series S/X consoles – a nice addition, though in practice it doesn't offer as much as in more expensive models. However, the biggest problem remains HDR configuration. The HGiG feature, which adjusts the brightness and contrast of games to the panel's capabilities, does not respond as we would expect – the image can end up being overly dark or too flat. As a result, a better solution turns out to be simply playing in SDR mode, where the V6C performs stably and does not try to pretend to be an HDR TV.

Samsung S99H is also an excellent TV for gamers. It offers almost every useful feature... well, maybe except the obvious lack of Dolby Vision for Xbox consoles. It's equipped with four fully functional HDMI 2.1 ports with the full 48 Gbps bandwidth. Thanks to that we can easily use frame-rate synchronization VRR and automatic low-latency mode (ALLM). This year Samsung also has no issues with proper HGiG support, so HDR setup on a console is quick and without unnecessary complications. Samsung is also known for interesting extras in its TVs. In the Game Bar menu you'll find options to add an on-screen crosshair, enlarge the mini-map, or change the aspect ratio of the displayed image (PC).

Particularly noteworthy is Samsung's feature: Game Motion Plus. It's Samsung's proprietary motion-smoothing system that uses interpolation to increase smoothness in games. Input lag then rises to around 40 to 50 ms (depending on the strength of the setting), which is an excellent result compared to the competition. The system makes gameplay noticeably smoother. So if someone has their eye on a demanding game (e.g., GTA 6 😉) that runs at only 30 frames per second on console, the S99H can display it much more smoothly than competing models.

The input lag measurement indicates values below 15 ms, which is a level that is practically difficult to catch with the naked eye. Even in dynamic games, the action remains responsive, and the controls are smooth. This is a result that can confidently be considered very good and comfortably sufficient for most gamers, even if the V6C is not strictly gaming hardware.

Input lag is very low regardless of the chosen refresh rate. With a 120 Hz signal we measured about 5 ms, and at 60 Hz roughly 10 ms. After connecting a PC and setting it to 165 Hz the values were even lower. Response to controller or mouse movement is almost instantaneous, so in this respect the Samsung S99H is suitable even for very fast and demanding games.

Cooperation with the PC is only partially satisfactory. The TV supports chroma 4:4:4, so at first glance, the fonts look quite decent. The problem arises only when we take a closer look – under a microscope, it turned out that TCL used an unusual subpixel arrangement in the V6C. Instead of the classic vertical arrangement, we have a horizontal layout here, which in practice causes various artifacts and inconsistencies in displaying letters. As a result, the fonts can appear jagged, and after prolonged use, the text can strain the eyes. Therefore, it’s hard to consider the V6C a viable substitute for a monitor – it’s suitable for occasional browsing or watching content from a computer, but it completely fails as a main screen for work. There’s also not much to say about gaming features, as we simply won’t find any.

S99H also works very well as a large monitor connected to a computer. That’s mainly thanks to full support for frame synchronization, with both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and seamless compatibility with NVIDIA G-Sync. The TV also supports refresh rates up to 165 Hz, which is a nice bonus for PC gamers. The only specific trait of QD-OLED panels is the characteristic triangular subpixel arrangement. Because of that, the sharpness of very small text viewed up close isn’t ideal. However, given the S99H’s size, this TV is unlikely to sit directly on anyone’s desk. When working or gaming from more than a meter away, the issue stops mattering.

Viewing angles in the V6C are a classic compromise that we know from VA panels. We gain solid black when viewing straight on, but just moving slightly to the side causes the image to noticeably lose quality – colors fade, and contrast drops. This is a typical limitation of this technology and is unlikely to surprise anyone who has dealt with televisions before. In practice, this means that the V6C performs best in a "one sofa" setup – when we watch straight in front of the screen, the black looks decent, but a larger group of viewers spread throughout the living room will quickly notice differences in the displayed image.

The viewing angles on the S99H are simply outstanding, thanks to its QD-OLED panel. In this respect it's an absolute leader on the market. Even when looking at the screen from an extremely steep angle, the image remains perfectly readable and the drop in brightness or color saturation is negligible. This is a characteristic feature of QD-OLED panels and an advantage over traditional WOLED screens, which have slightly worse viewing angles.

The performance of the V6C during the day is not one of its strong points. It is a relatively dark television, so it simply does not cope well in brightly lit rooms. The satin coating of the panel somewhat dampens reflections and indeed limits bothersome glare, but it is not enough to speak of full viewing comfort. When a lot of natural light enters the room, the screen is unable to "break through" it, resulting in a dim and poorly readable image. The V6C is definitely a piece of equipment that feels better during evening screenings than in sunny midday.

One of the key and most distinctive features of Samsung's OLEDs, including the tested S99H, is the matte screen coating. It's currently one of the best solutions on the market if you want to minimize reflections as effectively as possible. Whether the room has large windows or lamps are on, all light glare is very effectively diffused. However, there is a trade-off. Because of the matte finish and the characteristics of QD-OLED panels (which in bright surroundings can take on a slightly cherry tint), black levels lose some of their depth and richness during the day. It's worth noting, though, that this effect mainly occurs when very harsh light falls directly on the panel. Fortunately, the S99H is an extremely bright OLED TV, comparable in this regard to the best Mini LED screens on the market. Its average brightness for everyday SDR content reaches nearly 850–900 nits, so the TV will have no trouble even in a heavily sunlit living room.

SmartTV: GoogleTV

The biggest advantage of the V6C is the Google TV operating system. It is an extensive platform that provides access to a vast database of applications – from YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max to less popular programs that can be easily downloaded from the Google store. In addition, it features useful functions such as AirPlay, screen mirroring, and voice search. However, it’s important to remember that Google TV is not one of the lightest systems. In the case of the V6C, which is a budget TV, you can sometimes notice stuttering and slower interface responses. This doesn’t ruin everyday use, but it can be noticeable, especially compared to more expensive models from TCL or competitors.

Classic Features

The V6C also caters to those who use television in a traditional way. The package includes a classic remote control with a large number of buttons, including a full numeric keypad. This is practical for people watching terrestrial or cable television. The TV also offers teletext and a clear interface for channel navigation. The seamless Bluetooth connectivity is a plus – pairing headphones or a speaker is hassle-free. Therefore, the V6C performs solidly as a daily television, although it’s important to keep in mind certain shortcomings. We won’t find USB recording or picture-in-picture (PiP) mode here, which are functions that may mainly be needed by older users. (Though not only 😉).

Smart features: Tizen

The Tizen system runs on the S99H exceptionally quickly and stably. Wide support for wireless protocols deserves praise — it includes Apple AirPlay and the recently added support for Chromecast. It’s hard to fault Tizen today in terms of app availability. The catalog covers all the most popular streaming services and in that respect it is on par with Google TV.

Art Mode

The S99H is the first Samsung OLED TV to be equipped with a dedicated Art Mode, previously known mainly from The Frame series. That’s quite a surprise, because most TV makers using OLED panels generally advise against long-term display of static images. Here the feature is officially promoted, which suggests Samsung is confident in its panel’s resistance to permanent burn-in. Access to the full art library unfortunately requires a paid subscription. There is a simple workaround — favorite artworks or personal photos can be uploaded to the TV’s internal storage for free and set as a background in the dedicated app. It’s worth adding that the TV includes an ambient light sensor that adjusts screen brightness and color temperature so the displayed image closely mimics a real canvas or print.

Daily use and remote

All the classic TV functions on the S99H perform well, although the controls may not appeal to older users. That’s down to the minimalist remote, which lacks a traditional numeric keypad. The advantage of the solar-powered remote is its universal remote function — it can be easily paired and used to control virtually any device connected to the TV, e.g., satellite set-top boxes, consoles, and players.

Playing files from USB on the V6C is quite decent. The built-in player handles most popular video and audio formats, and during testing, we did not encounter major difficulties launching typical files. The biggest problem arose with very high-resolution photos – above 20 Mpix, the television often refused to cooperate. We also noticed minor shortcomings in functionality regarding video playback. The video player does not allow changing the font colors, which had previously worked without issues in other TCL models. Fortunately, these are inconveniences that are easy to work around. Thanks to Google TV, you can install external applications such as VLC or KODI, which solve most of the problems and offer significantly broader file handling capabilities.

The S99H's built-in media player runs smoothly and quickly. The TV handles most popular video and audio formats with ease, delivering smooth playback without stuttering. Only support for certain photo formats stored on removable media raises some concerns. The TV reacts rather oddly to files in Apple's HEIC format... although thumbnails in the browser display correctly, trying to open a photo at full size causes the interface to freeze. It looks like a software bug that Samsung will likely fix in one of the upcoming updates.

The sound in the V6C does not stand out in any particular way compared to competitors in the same budget. The audio is quite flat, and there is simply a lack of bass. Fortunately, the TV can play loud – a measured 83 decibels is quite a decent result, and importantly, even at maximum volume, there is no unpleasant cracking that often bothers cheaper models. However, it's worth noting that it's not just the quality of the built-in audio that is beneficial, but the support for advanced surround sound formats. The V6C handles Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, so connecting a soundbar or another external audio system will not pose a problem and will allow for full utilization of these codecs. This is good news for those who plan to expand their setup with additional sound systems.

For such a slim design, the Samsung S99H sounds surprisingly good. At first we were surprised that such a flat screen could produce such loud sound. Importantly, there's even some bass, of course keeping in mind that we're talking about built-in TV speakers, not a dedicated home theater. 😉 The TV easily handles decoding of Dolby Atmos and Samsung's proprietary Q-Symphony system. This lets us easily pair the display with a Samsung soundbar (or the new Studio-series speakers), so the built-in speakers play together with external audio. For everyday viewing and standard use, however, external audio equipment won't be needed right away. As is typical for Samsung, support for the DTS format is missing here. For people who use only streaming this may not be a big loss, but for fans of physical media and Blu-ray discs it will be a noticeable downside.
