Our verdict

Samsung, what have you actually done? The S90H is a TV that won us over practically from the first minutes. If you want a short answer to whether it's worth the money, we’ll be blunt: yes, absolutely. The combination of perfect, organic black with very high brightness and the vivid colors of the QD-OLED panel creates an effect that wows you from the first time you turn it on. Choosing a matte finish proved to be a perfect decision. No more constant battles with the blinds or seeing your own reflection on a sunny day. Sure, purists like us will notice that in a heavily sunlit room the blacks can slightly shift toward grayish-maroon tones, but daytime usability here is invaluable. Most importantly, in the evening and at night the picture still delivers everything we love about OLEDs: perfect black, excellent contrast, and amazing depth. Add to that a fast, refined Tizen system and an almost complete package of gaming features led by Game Motion Plus. The result is an exceptionally complete TV where minor software niggles don't change the overall, very positive impression. So does the S90H have any serious downside? As far as the TV itself is concerned, it's hard to point to anything that would really spoil its appeal. The biggest reservation is more about Samsung's policy. To this day it's hard for us to understand why such a great QD-OLED panel is available only in the 77-inch model we tested, with the HAT suffix in the name. Maybe that will change in the future, but for now that's how it stands. So if you're aiming exactly for this variant, there's no need to hesitate. The Samsung S90H in the 77-inch QD-OLED version is one of the most exciting TVs of the year. Once the early-adopter tax drops and stronger promotions arrive, it could become one of the most cost-effective OLEDs on the market, and quite possibly one of 2026's biggest bestsellers.

The C6H is an even more interesting TV, because the use of a Tandem OLED panel has pushed the C series into territory until now reserved for much pricier models. We still get all the advantages of the regular C6, but the panel's capabilities are on a completely different level. HDR shows this best. In many scenes we measured around 2000 nits, and at times even 2300 nits, results previously seen only in flagship TV lineups. Add a wider BT.2020 gamut and, above all, much stronger colors at high brightness. In that respect it's hard to call this a typical mid-range OLED. What's more, the rest of the TV doesn't lag behind the panel. We get excellent image processing, 165 Hz, a full set of gaming features, and a convenient webOS with the Magic remote. If we judged the C6H solely by its capabilities and specs, it could easily be placed alongside much more expensive top-of-the-line TVs. Unfortunately the whole charm fades a bit when evening comes and you want to watch a movie on it. In near-black areas our C6H unit showed pronounced dithering and annoying image flicker. It was most evident in difficult, very dark scenes, and it's the kind of flaw that's hard to ignore in an OLED TV. After all, we buy such a panel partly to enjoy perfect blacks during evening viewing. It's all the more disappointing because otherwise the C6H is a truly outstanding TV. Everything indicates this is not a limitation of the panel itself, but a software issue, similar to the one we also observed in the LG G6. So we hope LG will fix it with an update, as it has done in other markets. As of today this one issue keeps us from fully recommending the C6H. Until LG fixes it, the safer choice is the regular C6 or a competing OLED that doesn't struggle with this near-black behavior. If, however, an update actually resolves the problem, the C6 with Tandem technology will immediately become one of the most interesting OLEDs of 2026.

Halo effect and black detail visibility:

Check the visibility of bright lights on a dark background. Mini-LEDs often struggle with this. The photo does not compare black levels – that’s what the video below is for.

The video accurately shows differences in contrast and black levels between TVs, as well as potential issues: halo around bright objects or Mini-LED zone operation visible as brightness jumps.

Because the Samsung S90H uses an OLED panel, it deserves the highest rating for contrast and black levels. Importantly, this applies to both the WOLED panel version and the QD-OLED variant we tested. Each pixel emits light independently and can be turned off completely, so the TV delivers perfect blacks and virtually infinite contrast. This translates into excellent image depth and very clear separation of bright elements from a dark background, without the halo effect (blooming) that still appears even in the best LCD TVs. The effect is especially impressive when watching in a dark room, where dark scenes look incredibly realistic and the picture gains in three-dimensionality and detail.

The Tandem OLED panel gives the C6 noticeably greater capabilities in several image areas, but when it comes to black nothing needed to change. As with every OLED, individual pixels can be completely switched off, which provides perfect black and practically infinite contrast. So it doesn't matter whether bright text on a black background, tiny stars, or small light sources appear on the screen. You won't see the halo typical of LCDs around them, and transitions between bright and dark areas are very precise. In terms of black itself, the Tandem OLED version has no advantage over the regular C6, because both panels can switch pixels off with single-pixel precision. Differences between them only appear in brightness and color. However, if we look solely at contrast and black level, both variants offer the same reference level.

NOTE: In the helicopter scene from Sicario 2 we noticed graininess and flickering in the darkest parts of the image. This looks like a software bug that LG should fix with an update. The effect is even more noticeable in the Tandem OLED version, and we observed similar behavior in the flagship LG G6 as well.

The Samsung S90H is a truly bright TV for the midrange among OLEDs. In synthetic measurements its peak brightness reached about 1650 nits. That's an outstanding result in this class, roughly 50% higher than what we’ve seen from previous models at this price point. Crucially, these tests translate directly to real video material. In 4 out of 5 film shots we tested the S90H’s brightness hovered around 1300–1500 nits. That headroom lets the TV reproduce most HDR movies with the same dynamics and expression the creators intended in post-production. Of course, on full-screen, very bright scenes the result is naturally lower and drops to around 900 nits. That’s a direct result of the protection systems that prevent the OLED panel from being overloaded. Even in that scenario there’s no reason to complain. Those 900 nits across the entire screen is still a very high level, ensuring excellent dynamics in HDR content.

A major advantage of QD-OLED TVs has always been color, and the S90H is no exception. The DCI-P3 gamut we measured reached a full 100% (exactly 99.9%), while coverage of the much wider BT.2020 gamut hit roughly 89%. That’s a great result, allowing you to enjoy extremely saturated, vivid colors in HDR content. It’s worth noting these figures are better than WOLED panels, which is especially noticeable in very demanding film scenes.

And it's with HDR that the Tandem OLED panel shows its biggest advantage. The C6H's brightness is simply very high and in our measurements it hovered around 1900–2300 nits in most movie scenes. That's already a level at which bright highlights, the sun, or small light sources can look truly spectacular. The biggest impression on us, however, was the fifth scene from the film The Meg. It is exceptionally demanding for OLEDs because practically the entire screen is very bright. Even so, the C6H reached about 1650 nits there. For comparison, the regular C6 with a classic WOLED panel delivered around 600–700 nits in the same spot. So we're talking about more than double the brightness, and in places the difference approaches threefold. That is probably the best example of what Tandem OLED brings. It's not just a higher result on a small test patch. The C6H can sustain very high brightness even when much more of the screen is lit. Thanks to that, HDR has a significantly greater dynamic range and in this respect the C6H is much closer to flagship OLEDs than to typical mid-range models.

Colors

Tandem OLED also brings improvements in color. DCI-P3 coverage remains practically full at about 99%, while in the much wider BT.2020 gamut we measured roughly 82–83%. That's about 7 percentage points more than the regular C6. In everyday use this won't be a visible difference in every scene, since most films don't use such a wide gamut. However, when very heavily saturated colors appear, the C6H already has noticeably greater capabilities, especially in reds. Reds benefit the most, becoming deeper and more saturated. It's still not at the level of the best QD-OLED panels or SQD TVs, but for a WOLED panel the result is really very good.

The next stage of the test was to check how the S90H handles color reproduction without any calibration. As always, we took measurements in Filmmaker Mode, the best out-of-the-box picture setting. And here Samsung truly deserves praise. The factory tuning is at a very high level, and a few years ago that wasn't one of its strong points. The white balance was set correctly, as was the brightness response. The average color error (Delta E) hovered around 3, which is below the level at which most people can notice inaccuracies. Only in the brightest shades of gray did values slightly approach 4, but it's still hard to consider that a real viewing issue. For settings straight out of the box, the result is simply excellent.

Right out of the box the LG C6 is pretty well calibrated, especially if you select Filmmaker mode. In SDR content the white balance is quite good, although as brightness increases it starts to show a slight lack of red. The picture becomes a bit cooler as a result, but not enough to be very noticeable during normal viewing. More is happening in the luminance response. Gamma is a bit low and, instead of holding at 2.4, it sits closer to 2.1–2.2 across much of the range. In practice the C6 slightly brightens the midtones. Shadows are therefore more readable, but the image loses some depth compared with how it should look in a dark room.

The situation is a bit more interesting in HDR. The start of the grayscale looks very good, but from roughly 20–30% brightness the white balance begins to drift increasingly. As brightness rises, red increases and blue becomes noticeably lacking. In the brightest areas the difference is already substantial and also affects the reproduction of some colors. The EOTF curve itself is, however, fairly well followed over most of the range. The C6 only tends to slightly brighten the image, which we also saw during our film comparisons. The largest deviation appears around the brightest sections, where the TV begins to map the signal to the panel’s capabilities.

The out-of-the-box Filmmaker mode in HDR is therefore not perfect, but overall it performs well. The biggest room for improvement is the white balance, especially at high brightness.

Okay, but you know we wouldn’t be ourselves if we didn’t check how much more we could squeeze out of the S90H with professional calibration. And there was no big surprise here: since the out-of-the-box settings were already very good, there wasn’t a huge reserve. Even so, we managed to refine the picture almost to perfection. After calibration the average color reproduction errors fell below the threshold of perception, reaching Delta E values under 2 for both SDR and HDR material. We also improved the brightness response, so the image more faithfully reflects the creators’ intent and maintains proper tonality across the full brightness range. Not necessarily, because the factory settings already deliver a very high level. If you want the most accurate image and want to squeeze absolutely everything out of this panel, the S90H offers that potential. After professional calibration it’s simply an almost reference display.

Will the difference be spectacular for everyone? Not necessarily. It depends a lot on the individual unit. Our sample was very well tuned straight out of the box, but that doesn’t mean every S90H will perform at the same level. Even identical models can vary in their factory calibration. That’s exactly why professional calibration makes sense: it lets you bring a specific unit to the highest possible accuracy instead of hoping for a bit of luck when buying.

LG TVs have been very receptive to calibration for years, and the C6 is no exception. After correction we were able to set the white balance almost perfectly, and most color errors (Delta E) fell below 3, often even around 2. In practice this means very accurate color reproduction in both SDR and HDR. The only curiosity showed up with the HDR luminance response. On the standard EOTF chart everything looks nearly perfect and at first glance it would be hard to fault anything. Only when we measured the TV’s behavior using filters based on actual movie scenes did it become apparent that the C6 has a slight tendency to artificially boost image brightness.

It’s not a huge difference and many people may even take it as a positive, since HDR looks a bit more striking because of it. From the perspective of fidelity to the source material, however, this isn’t ideal — some scenes are simply a bit brighter than the filmmaker intended. Interestingly, this is rather atypical for LG. In previous generations LG TVs usually adhered closely to the reference picture curve after calibration. With the C6 we’re still very close to the standard, but that subtle brightness "boost" can indeed be noticed in movies and TV shows.

The smoothness of tonal transitions here is really high. In most content it's hard to spot any noticeable posterization, and if it does appear, it's only in the most demanding scenes. That's one of the advantages of the QD-OLED panel. These panels simply handle smooth transitions between shades better than traditional WOLEDs. So if you care about the smoothest possible gradients, the QD-OLED variant has a clear advantage here.

In terms of tonal transitions alone, the C6H performs really well. Gradients are smooth, colors don’t break into obvious bands, and in both bright and dark scenes it’s hard to find major posterization issues. In most material the image looks very clean in this respect.

Note: The situation is much worse when it comes to dithering around black. In very dark parts of the image you can notice clear flickering and graininess, which from close viewing can be quite pronounced. The Tandem OLED panel version shows this effect noticeably more than the regular C6. That’s a shame, because the tonal transitions themselves are at a very high level. It’s precisely the behavior of the image just above black that is the main reason we can’t rate this category higher.

In this regard Samsung has practically changed nothing compared with last year’s model, which is actually pretty good news. The function responsible for smoothing tonal transitions still very effectively reduces posterization. You should remember, however, that it works quite aggressively, because besides removing artifacts it can also eliminate film grain and slightly soften fine image details. As always, it’s a matter of compromise and personal preference. If you want the most faithful reproduction of the source, we recommend leaving this function turned off.

There’s also no revolution when it comes to upscaling. The S90H uses the same proprietary NQ4 Gen3 image processor as its predecessor, so scaling quality has remained virtually unchanged. The TV handles lower-resolution content well, effectively improving sharpness. The overscan issue still hasn’t been solved, though. With some older material, especially archival footage, parts of the image at the edges may be cropped. It’s a minor flaw, but it’s a shame Samsung left this problem unchanged for another year running.

Here the LG C6 has taken a really big step forward. The TV uses the same processor found in the flagship G6, and in terms of image processing the two models are very similar. That's a big plus, because in this area LG's processor this year performs excellently. The "Smooth Gradation" feature works especially well. With heavily compressed material it can effectively hide ugly banding and artifacts that often appear, for example, in lower-quality streaming. It's best to leave it on the "Low" setting. That way the improvement is noticeable, and the TV doesn't yet start blurring fine details. Higher levels smooth the image more, but can start to remove some of the natural texture of objects on screen. The upscaling itself also performs very well. Lower-resolution material is properly sharpened, edges look clean, and the processor quite effectively reconstructs fine details. In this respect the C6 is already very close to LG's best TVs, and the differences compared with the G6 are small.

In terms of motion smoothness, the S90H delivers a very high level. New here is a panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate. In practice, when watching movies or sports broadcasts it's hard to notice any difference, because that kind of content doesn't use refresh rates higher than 120 Hz. The extra 165 Hz will be appreciated mainly by PC gamers who can generate that many frames per second. Samsung equipped the TV with advanced motion settings. You get two sliders (judder reduction and blur reduction) that make it easy to tailor the picture's character to your preferences. You can easily get very smooth motion for sports, but you can just as easily preserve a more cinematic feel with the typical 24 fps. It all depends on which effect you prefer.

The C6H with a Tandem OLED panel can also operate at refresh rates up to 165 Hz. PC gamers will get the most use out of that, of course, because for consoles, movies, or sports we’re still talking about a maximum of 120 Hz. The panel itself performs excellently in motion. OLED pixels respond virtually instantly, so even with fast-moving objects you don’t see the typical motion blur behind them. The image stays clean whether you’re watching sports or playing fast-paced games.

If you care more about smoothness than motion clarity, TruMotion is available. LG lets you adjust two parameters separately. De-Judder works mainly with films and series shot at 24 fps and helps reduce the judder typical of them. De-Blur, on the other hand, is intended for 50/60 fps material, so it’s especially useful when watching sports or TV.

From the start the Samsung S90H feels like a TV designed with gamers in mind, and honestly... it's hard to blame them. The manufacturer equipped it with everything you’d expect from a gaming TV. You get four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports, support for ALLM and VRR, and very high refresh rates. There’s also a clear Game Bar that lets you quickly check key picture parameters or change settings without leaving the game. Another very welcome improvement is that HGiG now works properly. Last year it could cause a lot of issues, but on the S90H it behaves exactly as it should.

Samsung’s real ace, however, is its proprietary Game Motion Plus mode. The feature works similarly to the motion smoothing known from movies, improving animation smoothness in games while keeping input lag at a very reasonable level. For titles running at 30/60 fps, with the right settings, input lag did not exceed 40 ms in our tests. That’s a very good result, especially since enabling similar features from many manufacturers can end up increasing lag three to four times. It’s a feature that partly makes up for the lack of Dolby Vision Gaming. A smoother image often provides more noticeable benefits than the HDR format itself, so for many gamers this will be a far more valuable addition.

The C6H offers basically a full package of gaming features. On consoles we can easily use 4K at 120 Hz, while PC users can push the refresh rate up to 165 Hz. The TV also supports VRR from 40 to 165 Hz, ALLM and a proper implementation of HGiG. Dolby Vision is also available in game mode, which remains a significant advantage for Xbox owners. We can view all the key information in the Game Bar, which provides quick access to VRR settings and current signal parameters. The OLED tandem therefore doesn't change the actual feature set for gamers, but with such high panel brightness HDR games can make an even bigger impression. Functionally, the C6H is simply a very complete TV for console and PC.

Input lag is another area that's really hard to fault. With a 120 Hz signal we measured just around 5 ms, which is an exceptional result. When switched to even higher refresh rates the delay dropped to almost astronomically low levels, practically imperceptible during gameplay. The Samsung S90H delivers absolutely market-leading results here.

In terms of input lag, the C6 performs like a good gaming TV should. At 120 Hz we measured about 5 ms, so controller input is practically instantaneous. At 60 Hz the result rises to around 14 ms, but that's still a good figure. Latency is a bit higher in Dolby Vision. At 120 Hz it's about 14 ms, and at 60 Hz about 22 ms. In practice, when playing normally on an Xbox, this is unlikely to be something that would actually bother you.

The photo shows the legibility of small fonts. Ideally, lines should be the same thickness on both light and dark text, with minimal pixel gaps.

The Samsung S90H works great as a large PC display, and not just because of its gaming feature set. The panel supports refresh rates up to 165 Hz, has very low input lag, and the official NVIDIA G-Sync certification lets you get smooth gameplay without tearing when paired with GeForce cards. If you’re looking for a large screen that will handle demanding PC games well, the S90H is an excellent choice.

And how about everyday work with text or web browsing? That’s good too. Fonts are sharp and readable, though you should keep in mind the specifics of QD-OLED panels. Up close you can notice the characteristic triangular subpixel layout, which can make letter edges look slightly jagged or pick up faint colored fringing. Is that a problem? In practice, it’s minor. After all, we’re talking about a 77-inch screen, so few people will sit just a few dozen centimeters from the panel. At a normal viewing distance the effect becomes practically invisible.

The C6H with a Tandem OLED panel also works very well as a computer screen. When working with text the most important thing is that the TV correctly supports 4:4:4 chroma subsampling, so small fonts, icons and UI elements are rendered clearly. The only thing you can notice up close are subtle color fringes caused by the unusual subpixel layout. At a normal viewing distance for such a large screen that practically stops mattering, and text is very readable day to day. The C6H is even better when the PC is used for gaming. The TV can run at up to 165 Hz, supports G-Sync and VRR, and input lag at the maximum refresh rate is about 5 ms. Combined with the very fast response time of the OLED panel, that creates excellent conditions for PC gaming. There’s no smearing, the picture is very smooth, and inputs respond virtually instantly. In that respect the C6H can easily be treated not just as a TV but also as a very large gaming monitor. Just remember that with 77- or 83-inch sizes, positioning your desk sensibly can be a real challenge. 😉

As expected from an OLED, the viewing angles are excellent, but the QD-OLED panel used here goes a step further and in this regard outclasses anything else on the market. Even if you sit well off to the side of the screen, colors don't lose saturation and the drop in brightness is marginal. There's none of the greenish tint that can be annoying on TVs with panels from LG Display. The image retains its colors regardless of the viewing angle.

The C6H with a Tandem OLED panel also offers very wide viewing angles. You can watch the TV well from far off to the side and the image still retains high contrast and saturated colors. As you’d expect from an OLED, it’s one of those screens where you don’t have to fight for the exact center spot on the couch. Only TVs with QD-OLED panels from Samsung Display actually perform better in this regard. The slightly lower rating for the C6H comes from our unit showing a somewhat greater tendency to shift toward a greenish tint when viewed at very extreme angles. However, that’s a subtle difference we mostly noticed during direct side-by-side comparisons. In normal viewing, most people probably won’t notice it.

The biggest new feature in the S90 series is the matte screen coating. Samsung has taken this step for the first time and, in our opinion, it was a good move. In practice you can see the difference immediately. The coating very effectively suppresses light reflections, so even when there's a window opposite the TV or a bright lamp is shining, you won't see the typical mirror-like glare on the screen. Instead, only softly diffused light appears, which is much less distracting while watching. If the TV is going to sit in a bright living room, it's hard to overstate how valuable that is.

Of course, there's a trade-off. QD-OLED with a matte coating has its own characteristic quirk. When bright light hits the screen, black, instead of staying perfectly black, takes on a slightly cherry tint. You can also see that colors lose a bit of their depth. It's nothing you couldn't predict... that's just the nature of this panel. Fortunately, the TV itself is bright enough that there are no problems watching during the day. In SDR it reaches about 500 nits of average brightness, and combined with the matte coating that provides really comfortable viewing conditions.

The version with the Tandem OLED panel performs noticeably better in daylight. The screen coating itself behaves very similarly, it is glossy, suppresses reflections fairly well, and maintains black levels with the lights on. A bright window or lamp will still be visible on the screen, but the picture does not lose much of its depth because of that. The biggest difference, of course, is brightness. In typical SDR content the C6H reaches about 690 nits, which is clearly more than the regular C6. In a bright living room you can really notice this — the image has more punch and cuts through the incoming light much better. Tandem OLED also handles scenes with a lot of bright elements on screen better, although brightness still drops with near-full white. So they have not completely eliminated one of the usual characteristics of OLEDs, but the limitation is much less noticeable here. If the TV will be used often in a bright living room, this is one of the C6H’s advantages over the regular C6 that you can actually feel in everyday use.

Traditional television

When it comes to ordinary cable or an over-the-air antenna, Samsung hasn't reinvented the wheel. Putting the whole AI layer aside, the user mostly gets the same thing as last year. The TV simply does its job: it switches channels smoothly, has a tuner and a CI module slot, so in many cases you can do without an external decoder. Teletext is still available. The compact remote is also worth praising; its biggest advantage is RF connectivity, meaning you don't have to point it directly at the TV to change something. The problem is that practically every competitor offers most of these things today, and the S90H doesn't bring anything particularly special to the table. What's more, the manufacturer took a small step back. The S90 series has lost the PiP function, picture-in-picture. If you were used to glancing at the news in the corner of the screen while watching another program, you can't do that here. A shame.

Smart TV: Tizen

While there's little excitement in traditional TV, the Tizen system for 2026 is absolutely top-tier. Again putting AI features to one side, the main point is this: the system is simply lightning-fast. Response to remote commands is instantaneous, and when navigating menus there are no slow animations or annoying stutters. Although it doesn't use Google TV, the app library is very broad. It includes virtually all the major VOD streaming platforms, so there's little real cause for complaint in that regard. Fans of gaming without a console will also be happy, because Samsung has significantly expanded the cloud gaming section, offering access to the main streaming services directly from the TV. As a Smart TV, the S90H is simply a very complete and exceptionally fast device.

Smart TV: webOS

No matter which C6 version you get, the feature set stays the same. The heart of the TV is, of course, webOS, the system LG has been developing for many years. It runs fast, is well optimized, and above all offers access to virtually all popular apps. Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, Max and other streaming services — in this respect it's hard to find significant gaps. The system itself also provides a lot of extra options. There’s AirPlay, easy screen casting from a smartphone, smart home device control, and the ability to personalize the home screen. LG has been expanding webOS heavily for several generations, and at times the number of available tabs or recommendations can be a bit overwhelming, especially with background ads, but once you get used to it the system is convenient and, most importantly, runs smoothly.

Classic TV features

The C6 also performs very well when you want to use it like a regular TV, not just a screen for Netflix. Over-the-air TV reception, the program guide and channel switching work smoothly and there’s little to complain about. LG still offers the ability to record programs to USB, so in terms of classic features the set is really well equipped. There are really only two things missing. The first is PiP, the ability to display two video sources at the same time. The second is a backlight for the remote, which would be handy for evening viewing. Apart from that, the C6 has basically everything you’d expect from a modern TV.

Magic Remote: DIFFERENT VERSIONS

When buying the C6, it’s worth paying attention to the remote, because LG has created some confusion here. During our tests we had, among others, the C64 variant commonly found in large retail chains. The package included the new, much smaller Magic Remote Slim. It has fewer buttons and looks much more modern, but it still retains two of LG remotes’ most characteristic features: the scroll wheel and cursor control by moving the remote. The C6E we tested came with the older, larger Magic Remote. It works basically the same, but it has a traditional numeric keypad and many more physical buttons. It looks less modern, but some people, especially those used to classic remotes, may find it more convenient. So there’s no single answer as to which remote is better. The new one is smaller, simpler and more contemporary, while the older one gives faster access to a larger number of functions without navigating menus. It’s worth knowing that depending on the C6 designation, the box may contain either variant.

The built-in player handles most popular video, audio, and photo formats really well. Its playback capabilities are so complete that you definitely won't miss the option to install external players like VLC. However, we encountered a serious bug when trying to open HEIC photos from an iPhone. The S90H not only failed to display the files but caused the entire system to freeze. The receiver stopped responding to any of our commands, so we had to reset it (unplugging it helped). This appears to be a software flaw that needs an urgent fix in the next firmware release.

During our tests the TV handled virtually all the most popular video formats we put on a USB flash drive without any problems. There were no issues with high bitrates, subtitles, or more demanding files, so it's hard to fault it in that respect. The only exception was content with a DTS audio track. That's not surprising, since the TV simply doesn't support that codec. Besides, the built-in player is good enough that most users will be fine without installing third-party apps or connecting an external media player.

In theory the audio specification in the S90 series has stood still for years. Once again we get a 2.1 speaker system with a total power of 40 W. However, when we powered up the review unit, we were pleasantly surprised. The TV sounded noticeably better than dry specs or memories of previous models' tests would suggest. It's hard to say definitively whether that's thanks to optimizations in the sound-control software or simply the fact that the 77-inch cabinet allows slightly larger drivers and gives them a better enclosure. The facts are that the sound is fuller and more dynamic. That's a big plus for the manufacturer. Our only gripe is that it lacks support for DTS:X, which unfortunately is being offered less and less by manufacturers. Instead, there is support for the most popular format, Dolby Atmos; nevertheless, fans of physical Blu-ray releases may feel slightly let down by the absence of DTS.
