Wizards of the Coast canceled a new game set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, which was being developed by Giant Skull studio founded by the former director of the God of War and Star Wars Jedi series. The project was scrapped just a few months after its official announcement.
Ambitious action game didn't last even a year
The new production was meant to be a single-player action and adventure game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The project was led by the studio Giant Skull, created by Stig Asmussen, who previously worked on God of War III and the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order series. According to Bloomberg, Wizards of the Coast canceled the project during an internal review of upcoming games. However, the company emphasizes that it still maintains good relationships with the Giant Skull studio.
This is not the first problem related to the Dungeons & Dragons brand in recent months. Recently, the cooperative project codenamed Project Baxter created by Starbreeze Studios was also canceled. Currently, the only officially confirmed major D&D game remains the Warlock project being developed by the studio Invoke. At the same time, the head of Hasbro recently suggested that other unannounced productions in this universe are also in the works.
Hasbro still wants to invest billions in AAA games
Despite further canceled projects, Hasbro does not intend to abandon the gaming market. The company plans to invest up to a billion dollars in the development of large AAA productions based on brands such as Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering. Interestingly, the corporation is currently focusing mainly on classic single-player games instead of the live service model.
