What has been rumored for months has finally become a reality – one of Bethesda's biggest hits is no longer an "exclusive" for the Microsoft ecosystem. On April 7, 2026, Starfield will officially land on PlayStation 5. This is a huge move from the publisher, especially since the release on Sony's console will coincide with the launch of the biggest free update yet and a new story expansion. It seems that PlayStation players will receive the game in its most polished and rich form, which Xbox fans had to wait nearly three years for.
Bethesda squeezes the juices from DualSense and PS5 Pro
When bringing Starfield to PlayStation, the developers didn't take the easy route and decided to utilize the specific features of this console. The biggest difference will come from the DualSense controller – the adaptive triggers will provide different resistance when shooting with various types of weapons, and the speaker in the controller will play messages from the onboard intercom or audio logs found in the game world. These are small details, but in a game of such scale, they can significantly enhance the atmosphere. Additionally, the touchpad will serve as a quick view switch and access to the map, which should facilitate navigation through the Settled Systems.
The announcements for PS5 Pro owners look very good as well. The game will feature dedicated modes of operation, including the much-anticipated Performance mode. Thanks to this, players will be able to enjoy smooth 60 frames per second while maintaining high graphic quality. For those who prefer maximum image sharpness, a Visual mode has been prepared, offering 4K resolution, although at standard 30 frames per second.
End of Boredom in Space: Free Flight and New DLC
With the launch on PS5, all platforms will receive a free update called Free Lanes. This is the update that introduces the feature players have been missing the most – free flight between planets within a single system. Bethesda is finally abandoning the constant screen loading, allowing for manual piloting of the ship and encountering random events in space. The entire travel system is now said to be much smoother, and exploration will meaningfully reward our curiosity.
The completion of the whole is the paid DLC Terran Armada. This is a new story focused on the fight against an army of advanced robots, which introduces a new star system, Incursion, and an additional companion to the game. From day one on PS5, you will also be able to check out the Trackers Alliance package, which is a series of seven standalone missions for bounty hunters. It seems that on April 7, Starfield will debut on PS5 as a complete product that finally fulfills most of the promises made before the game's first release 3 years ago.
